Salford City was denied a massive win at Plymouth last week when Dominic Telford netted an 89th-minute winner to rescue a 2-2 draw.
The Ammies started their season with a 2-0 victory over Stevenage, but have found it tough since, drawing two and losing against Crawley. Salford will be hoping to return home from Carlisle with a big three points, to kickstart their season.
Let’s have a look at how they might line-up at The Cumbrians today…
Veteran ‘keeper Chris Neal will continue in goal. Graham Alexander will likely stick with his three at the back. Lois Maynard, Nathan Pond and Carl Piergianni will be the three central defenders. All very capable defenders, and have the ability to play out from the back, which is important. If Salford can get it right, they’ll do very well this season, they could pass teams off the park, but your three central defenders need to be comfortable receiving the ball under pressure and playing through the midfield.
Scott Wiseman and Ibou Touray will be tasked with providing the width, Touray got himself a goal and an assist last week at Plymouth. Two great assets to the squad, who can both attack and defend.
Richie Towell will play in central midfield alongside Joey Jones. In front of them, I expect Danny Whitehead to keep his place in the team, and look to provide service for the front two.
Emmanuel Dieseruvwe should be recalled to the starting line-up, he looked brilliant on the opening day and a real goal-scoring threat. Perhaps he could form a partnership with fellow striker Jake Beesley. Having already drawn a couple of games, The Ammies will be looking to transfer them into wins, which will ultimately be the difference between them finishing top six, or not.
