Wigan Athletic bid big money for Premier League striker

Wigan Athletic have bid £5 million for a player, yes you read that right. IEC really are rich. That player is Sam Gallagher of Southampton, it’s looking like a straight fight between Blackburn Rovers and Wigan for his signature.

The Wigan fan that works on The Football Man Cave is going to look at what he could bring to Latics.

Article done. We need a goal scorer. Wigan Athletic is blessed with lots of good attacking players – Michael Jacobs, Gavin Massey, Josh Windass and Anthony Pilkington just to name a few. However, you need someone to put the ball away and benefit from their creativity.

If Latics are willing to spend £5 million on him, he must be good and our number one target. It’s positive to see IEC are clearly backing Paul Cook financially. To develop, we need to spend on the right players. It’s looking like we’re focusing on signing young talents who can become assets in the future. A great plan, if you get it right.

Our most important signing of the summer will be the striker we sign. Joe Garner was Wigan’s top scorer last season with just eight goals. Although I felt he played the ‘lone’ role pretty well, always working hard and finished a fair amount of chances. We need better if our aims are to push for mid-table and above.

Whether Gallagher will prove to be that top striker signing, will remain to be seen. However, if IEC back Cook and we spend £5 million on him, the manager has no excuses. It was all doom and gloom this time last week, now we’ve signed David Marshall, and have big-money bids in for Antonee Robinson and Sam Gallagher.
