There are rumours today that Blackpool could be looking at Tranmere’s former striker, Ben Tollitt.
It’s looking like it just whispers at the moment although it has excited a few Blackpool fans. The 24-year-old spent his youth with Everton and in 2013 he signed for Widnes where he managed 18 goals in 39 appearances for the club. This was quite a strong start to his career which interested Skelmersdale United who signed him in 2015. In a year at the club, he grabbed one goal in 13 appearances. The striker then moved on to Portsmouth and had a similar form in 12 games and 1 goal again.
However, his career took a different turn when he went on loan to Tranmere, made 10 appearances and got 4 goals. They decided to take him on permanently and since signing in 2016 he’s played 23 games for the club and contributed 4 goals. Tollitt was loaned to Wrexham in 2019 and managed 4 goals for them too until his contract ended and he was released from Tranmere.
What could he bring to Blackpool if he does sign?
A lot of Blackpool fans are commenting about how they think their team could do with players that have the pace. Every time a new signing or interest in a player comes in, I’m seeing a lot of fans, especially on Twitter, asking for younger, fresher legs that can bring a bit of excitement to the team and the 24-year-old could do that.
His track record of goals hasn’t been consistent so to speak, but when you look at his appearance ratio to goals and loan spells, he could benefit from going to a club that needs him where he can play more often. The more regular he plays, the more comfortable he will set in and hopefully he could be Blackpool’s answer to finding the back of the net.
