Thrilling Charity Match Brings the Crowds For Follo FC

The Follo FC v Infinity Initiatives charity match on Saturday ended in a thrilling 5-3 scoreline over two 30 minute halves.

A crowd that came out to support the two charity teams were not left disappointed in this 8-goal game. Follo FC had a nice touch with the shirt names of their little lost ones on each of their backs.

Infinity raced into a 3-0 scoreline in the first half through a penalty and, two well taken lobbed goals over Follo ‘keeper Thomas Berman.

Follo came out in the second half with a renewed determination, the crowd were waiting to see the newly formed first Follo FC goal. Carl Gill scored the first Follo goal with headed goal.

A free kick shortly followed out on the left hand side, around 5 yards away from the 18-yard box. With a ball whipped into the danger area, Keith Peters headed home a powerful header to make the scoreline 3-2.

Infinity kept the distance between the sides with a third lobbed goal making it 4-2.

Follo had the bit between their teeth however. The third Follo goal coming soon after, with Danny Whitehouse finding the back of the net via a deflection making it 4-3, to set up the match for a great ending. The crowd was up and anticipating a fourth Follo FC goal, which would have been a fitting scoreline given the performance from both sides.

However, Infinity grabbed a late goal, another lobbed effort to make it a final score of 5-3.

The final whistle went and the crowd rightly clapped both sides off after an hours entertaining football.

The real reason for the Follo FC team, was shown in the post match photos. Pictures and football kits of the little loved ones the players had lost, were there for all to see.

It really drove home at that point the reason behind the team, many of the players noted how a group Whatsapp of the squad had been helping them through the tough times – Something most of us can ever imagine.

All of the guys have a common interest – football. For them it’s a chance to take their mind away for 60 minutes, football brought these guys together and through it, with the help of Curzon Ashton and shirt sponsor XS Manchester they are aiming to help others.
