Three positives we learnt from Man Utd’s 4-0 win over Leeds Utd
Man Utd fans should feel much more confident going into the Premier League, after learning these three things about the squad after their 4-0 win against Leeds United.
Manchester United put in a brilliant performance against an arguably fatigued Leeds United. Leeds had only brought 16 players along in order to let the rest train and get fit at home.
But it takes little away from the thrashing they received in Perth. Solskjaer’s men looked sharp, in tune and very competitive in the heated rivalry.
Man Utd looks to be in good stead going into the 19/20 campaign, and fans should be feeling exciting, confident and optimistic. It surely can’t be worse than last season.
Here are we three things we learned about Man Utd in their victory over Leeds…
The high pressure from Man Utd has been evident in both pre-season games. However, against Leeds, it looked to be of higher intensity, and the squad seems to be taking to Solskjaer’s philosophies.
This is going to result in Manchester United scoring many more goals in the upcoming season, which leads to the next thing we learned.
Bring in Maguire
Despite having two clean sheets in two games so far, Man Utd’s defence still looks shaky. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof looked relatively solid in the first half, as attacks were regularly coming from the back whilst defensive duties were still being upheld.
However, in the second half, a completely different eleven came out which saw Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Ashley Young in the back four. Each of them made the defence look unstable, as well as being unable to bring the ball out for the back. Phil Jones might deserve a free pass for his fantastically headed goal at the other end of the pitch.
Daniel James is fast
In one instance of play, Marcus Rashford found himself on the counter-attack alone. All of a sudden, Daniel James appeared making a run into the box after an 80-metre sprint in around 10 seconds. Unfortunately, his effort hit the post after being slotted through by Rashford.
It doesn’t take away from the exciting prospects we see in this Man Utd squad. Mason Greenwood scored an excellent goal from a Wan-Bissaka assist. Andreas Perreira dominated the entire midfield. Angel Gomes showed fantastic composure and intellect, while Chong’s pace and determination won his side a penalty.
Man Utd is well on their way to success once again, if they continue in the direction they’re going. Being given backing by the board will also play a huge role.
Solskjaer’s men take on Inter Milan in Singapore on July 20. It will be interesting to test these new systems against a more prolific opponent.
