French midfielder Christopher Missilou has been Oldham’s best player so far this season.
New Latics manager Dino Maamria gained his first three points on Saturday, with a 3-1 victory over Morecambe at Boundary Park. It was a huge result for the club. Fans needed a boost in confidence, hope that Maamria can turn their season around, he couldn’t have got off to a better start.
The Latics have scored 11 goals in their last four games, which suggests it’s their defence that is causing them problems. Two of the goals were scored by Frenchman Missilou. The midfielder scored the opening goal in the 2-2 draw against Grimsby Town, before netting the first goal again the following week at Scunthorpe United.
The 27-year-old had an impressive start in English football during the 2018/19 season, becoming the heart of the midfield and making 47 appearances, which included a brilliant volley in a 4-1 win over Yeovil Town.
Missilou is an all-round solid midfielder. Physical, strong, quick and suits the style of play for League Two football. A player that Maamria will be looking to build his side around. Mohamad Sylla is a similar type player to Missilou, very good at winning the ball and dangerous in both boxes.
In League Two you need players that can fight for the ball, win tackles and these two will do that.
It’s a brilliant base from Maamria to build off. Sylla and Missilou in midfield, David Wheater provides that experience and stability at the back, they could just do with a regular goal scorer – perhaps that’s what Maamria will be looking to sign in the January transfer window.
