What if 32 goals-midfielder had joined Man Utd in the summer?

Man Utd target Bruno Fernandes

Man Utd was linked to several midfielders over summer. Fans were furious on deadline day when no additions to the midfield were made, and foretold the struggles that Man Utd would face…

In Man Utd’s opening fixtures they have suffered one defeat and two draws, winning only one game using counter-attacks. This is worrying as most teams will now know to defend in a compact manner against the Reds. As recent games have shown that they do not have the midfield to pick out a man against a solid defence.

This is where the well-rounded midfielder Bruno Fernandes comes in. Last season, Bruno Fernandes scored 32 and got 18 assists in 53 appearances for Sporting Lisbon, drawing interest from clubs such as Man Utd, Real Madrid, Tottenham and Liverpool.

His form has continued into the current season. Fernandes has scored 2 and assisted 4 in four games in Liga Nos so far. Undoubtedly, he is one of the greatest midfielders in European football. He would have jumped at the chance to join Man Utd and prove himself on a much bigger stage.

Where would Man Utd be with Bruno Fernandes?

Should Bruno Fernandes have joined Man Utd in summer, I wholeheartedly believe that the Reds would have won each of their games so far this season.

On top of that, Paul Pogba having a talented midfielder to play alongside may have gone some way in encouraging him to stick around at Old Trafford. Increasing the chances that he will partake in the rebuild of Man Utd. The opportunities presented to the forward three of James, Martial and Rashford would also increase massively. Let alone the quality of football being displayed.

Overall, bringing in Bruno Fernandes, or any superstar creative midfielder, would have transformed this under-performing Man Utd. As a key ingredient would have been added. But most importantly, of course, it would have made the recent transfer window a lot more interesting.

Man Utd pass up on 75.1% pass completion rated midfielder, a good move?

Man Utd target Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United decided not to sign Bruno Fernandes this summer, and the Daily Mail have reported that club scouts warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that the midfielder gives away the ball too much.

Man United have been linked with the 24-year-old throughout the summer however, club scouts who were watching him decided that his style of play would not suit the team.

Even though Fernandes works with an element of risk in the attacking third, his pass completion was 75.1% last season. This has not been deemed high enough by the scouts. If you compare this stat to Paul Pogba, his pass rate is 82.8% and if we move away from Man United, Kevin De Bruyne has a consistent pass rate of 82% and over.

Personally, I think we now analyse players too much by stats and not through actually watching them play. Man United will be looking for new options now in midfield, however, here’s two things Fernandes could have brought to the Manchester team.

He is known as an attacking midfielder and is comfortable in that position. Fernandes also has the role of a striker in his profile. This means that Manchester United have missed out on a possible goalscorer too. Since 2017, the 24-year-old has appeared 66 times for Sporting Lisbon and scored 31 times. He’s also been a part of Portugal’s youth teams and senior squad since 2012.

Harry Maguire

Obviously, Man United went all out for Harry Maguire this summer and need to try and cut down on spending, so Fernandes would have been a cheaper midfield option than some. According to Transfermarkt, he went to Sporting for £8.72 million and is now worth £49 million. Yes, you can find cheaper out there although Man United’s scouts clearly have a high standard and that would have to be met.

One to Watch: Man City Sign Portuguese Wonderkid

The Daily Mail has reported how Manchester City have signed an 18-year-old winger from Sporting Lisbon. The Football Manc Cave take a closer look.

Felix Correia has decided to join the blues from Sporting Lisbon, and it’s believed that the league champions will pay £3.2 million upfront for him. He’s managed to impress some of the biggest clubs this summer and has gained interest from all over Europe. However, Pep Guardiola’s side has obviously offered him the most appealing move and why wouldn’t you go to Man City at that age?

Sporting Lisbon has wished him all the best and ‘professional happiness’ ahead of his move. The teenager is yet to experience first-team football so when there is confirmation of his apparent 5-year deal, it’s also expected that he will be going on a loan straight away.

Correia shone for Portugal’s Under 19’s in the European Championships last month when he managed to reach the final with his side, only to lose 2-0 to Spain. It was in that time that clubs all over Europe had their eye him and he managed to impress.

This transfer to Man City is now being compared to the move that Cristiano Ronaldo made to Man United 16 years ago. Ronaldo was also 18 years old when he made the move to Manchester. Fans and pundits are claiming that this transfer will shadow the move that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner made.

These claims will be cleared up when he’s seen in action whether that be for Man City or with whoever he goes on loan to. It sounds like he’s got a bright future ahead of him in the footballing world.

LOWDOWN: Who is Man City target Felix Correia

Man City is on the brink of signing the 18-year-old Portuguese winger Felix Correia, but what exactly can he bring to a table full of champions?

Sporting Lisbon fans were banging on the door demanding that this young prodigy got a sniff at first-team football last season in Liga Nos. However, he is yet to make a senior appearance for both club and country.

Felix Correia would be a relatively safe signing for the blues, as the signing is going to cost only around £3million, and will likely be sent on loan upon his arrival to the Etihad.

Correia has been compared to the likes of the former Manchester United winger Nani, he is very direct, skilful, and loves to beat the defender. He is capable of playing on either wing as well as attacking-midfielder positions, making him similar to rival signing Daniel James for Manchester United. It appears big clubs are finding extreme value in versatile players.

The Portuguese scored 11 goals for Portugal’s under 17s and under 18s over the course of 22 games, which is where Correia began to hit the limelight.

For Manchester City after his likely loan, he could likely return as a much more experienced player who has learnt the ins and outs of beating defenders. With the likes of Sane and Sterling on the wings for the blues, it is evident that pacey and skilful wingers are a crucial feature in the way they play, and securing the deal of a pacey and skilful winger could simultaneously secure the methods instilled by Guardiola after his departure.

Due to a lack of senior football, it is difficult to analyse the 18-year-old, however, it is very likely that Manchester City has had their eyes on the youngster and have had him heavily scouted over recent months.

The deal is set to be announced over the next 48 hours.

POLL: Which 2 players should Man Utd sign from these four transfer targets

Which of the following players do you want to see in Manchester United kits going into the 19/20 season?

Solskjaer wanted his transfers in by the start of their pre-season tour in Australia, but once again the Manchester United board have let the manager down as transfers are taking incredibly long to go through.

However, there is still time for some acquisitions before the Premier League kicks off in August, and here are four Manchester United targets you can vote for down below for who you want to see in a Manchester United kit.

Bruno Fernandes

In the 18/19 season, Bruno Fernandes featured in 53 games for Sporting Lisbon, where he scored 32 goals and provided 18 assists. The 24-year-old could solve Manchester United’s difficulty in scoring goals and putting pressure on defences. Fernandes created an average of 3.1 chances per game in Liga Nos last year, as well as averaging 3.4 shots per game, the second highest average in the Portuguese league last season.

Harry Maguire

Leicester is holding out for a world record fee in order to obtain the services of the England international. His ability to challenge in the air and to play from the back would be crucial to Manchester United’s defence, despite current red Victor Lindelof massively improving these areas of his game over the last season.

Sean Longstaff

The 21-year-old midfielder is very Michael Carrick-esque in the way he can distribute the ball and dictate the midfield. His services are rumoured to be worth around £25million. However, many Manchester United fans believe that it is not the ‘United way’ to buy other young talents and that we should be harnessing our own youth.

Adrien Rabiot

Rabiot is available for a free transfer after completing his contract duration at PSG. He is a world-renown established midfielder that would increase the value of the starting 11, as the only other world class outfield player at United is Paul Pogba, who could be exiting as Rabiot enters.

So, what do you think?

Have your say and vote for two of the four names below that you want to see step out on to the field for Manchester United next season.

Wan-Bissaka done, now time for Man Utd to wrap up Sporting Lisbon ace

Man Utd target Bruno Fernandes

We are one Man Utd Twitter post away from seeing Wan-Bissaka in a red shirt, next up: Bruno Fernandes.

According to reports, Wan-Bissaka will shortly be announced as a Manchester United player, after Crystal Palace accept a bid in the £50million region.

We have seen the poor negotiation tactics from the Man Utd board as this deal has taken several weeks, if not months, to complete. With Manchester United beginning pre-season in two weeks time, deals must be done quickly to ensure a successful start to the season.

Manchester United still need to bring in a centre-back, a centre-midfielder and a right-winger in order to separate them from clubs battling for the sixth position in the Premier League. Should Pogba and Lukaku part from the club, another central-midfielder and a striker would be necessary also; a total of five further signings, six including Fernandes, that need to be completed as soon as possible.

Should Manchester United successfully establish a confident and consistent defence partnered with ferocious and passionate attacking players. We could see remnants of what made the Red Devils one of the world’s most feared, and revered football teams in world football under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Bruno Fernandes currently plays for Sporting Lisbon, where he achieved 32 goals and 18 assists in his 2018/19 campaign with the Portuguese giants. This 24-year-old attacking-midfielder could transform Manchester United’s inability to pick out their forward man and sink the ball into the back of the net.

Manchester United managers have been made promises by Ed Woodward in the past and have been let down, the most extreme example being with Jose Mourinho. By the start of the 19/20 campaign, we will see if Woodward has finally realised that his approach to the club over the past years, has been a huge betrayal and embarrassment to the kings of English football.

Bruno Fernandes has reportedly caught the eyes of Spurs and Liverpool also, who can offer him one thing that United cannot; Champions League Football.

An Insight Into Man City’s Potential Target Bruno Fernandes

Man Utd target Bruno Fernandes

The 24-year-old Sporting Lisbon midfielder has had an amazing season, scoring 28 goals and adding 16 assists in 49 games this campaign.

This has obviously pricked the ears up of many clubs around Europe, Portuguese League’s Player of the Year. With Pep Guardiola looking to strengthen his midfield options this summer, with an ageing couple of players needing to be replaced.

The need for City to act early on Fernandes is critical to avoid a big bidding war between Europe’s elite. The Sporting Lisbon Captain is rated at 35m, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see figures of at least double that in the summer.

Having started his career at Boavista, he moved on to Italian side Novaro for 3.5m. However, a year later he transferred again over to Udinese, where he spent three years making 95 appearances, scoring 11 and assisting 13, making a name for himself in Serie A in the process.

It’s now surprise he attracted attention from Sampdoria in 2016, and spent a season out on loan at Blucerchiati, impressing enough to make the loan permanent as per the prior agreement in 2017, but bizarrely being moved on the day after to Sporting Lisbon for 9.6m.

Having moved back to Portugal, Fernandes built on his momentum and in 2018 he was named Portuguese League’s Player of the Year, signing a new five-year contract with a 100m release clause in the process.

Fernandes as played at u19 level, straight through to the Portuguese national team, making his full international debut in 2017 and playing in last years World Cup.

He can play in a variety of positions throughout the midfield, although playing in centre midfield seems to be where he is most prolific in front of goal and assisting his team.

If Man City were to get their man, he would be a very welcome player to the club and the Premier League in general. Given his experience already in two different league and a full international – Bruno Fernandes can only improve Pep’s City side, which is a frightening thought for all of their rivals.
