Two players that have to be in the team tonight for Oldham Athletic against Fleetwood Town

Oldham Athletic will face Fleetwood Town tonight in the Leasing.com Trophy. It will be a ‘winner takes it all’ scenario as the two teams will battle to get to the next round of the competition.

The Oldham team will have a trip to Fleetwood tonight to battle it out in the Leasing.com trophy. Only a point separates the two sides in their group.

Accrington Stanley is currently at the top of group B with 9 points. Fleetwood is 3rd with 2 points and Oldham sits 2nd with 3 points. Therefore, losing is not an option.

For Oldham to stand a chance getting to the next stages, the squad must be strong. While some use this competition as a chance to let their younger squad members shine, Oldham fans will want the squad to be the strongest possible.

Here are two players that need to be in the starting line up tonight…

Jonny Smith

The 22-year-old winger has been on top form for Oldham recently. However, he is on loan for the season from Bristol City.

Oldham will need to use him as much as possible this season to get the most out of him. He has recently scored against Gateshead and Northampton.

He now has an eye for goal now and will be looking to score tonight if he is in the squad.

Filipe Morais

The ex Bolton player is very experienced and acts as a leader in the squad. While David Wheater is a great Captain and leader at the back, it seems clear that Morais is having a good impact at the other end of the pitch.

It is also worth mentioning that he scored against Gateshead at the weekend too. This may inspire him to score again tonight.

However, he just needs to stay calm, keep his tackles clean and stay out of trouble. He picked up a red card a few weeks ago and won’t want another.

How is Wigan Athletic’s Callum Lang getting on at Shrewsbury?

Wigan fans were gutted earlier this season when Callum Lang went on loan to Shrewsbury. The Football Manc Cave takes a look at how he’s getting on.

Callum Lang has slowly become a fan favourite at Wigan. However, earlier the season, some were quite vocal on how they felt about him going out on loan.

The 21 year old went and joined Shrewsbury on loan to gain some more playing experience.

Some fans couldn’t understand why he was being allowed to leave as Wigan have been struggling themeselves.

Others understood that this would benefit Lang’s career. However, the striker is struggling to get appearances.

Current form

The striker has played 5 games so far and scored once in his time at the new club. He has also received 0 yellow or red cards.

Lang has previously been at the likes of Morecambe and Oldham on loan spells. He will now be looking to be better than ever during this loan spell.

Deserves more

Shrewsbury are currently 11th in League One. Lang is a player who will want to help this team build.

He is a product of Wigan’s youth and has worked his way up. Now he deserves more of a shot at Shrewsbury.

2 Positives from Oldham’s draw

Oldham played Northampton this weekend. They managed a 2-2 draw. The Football Manc Cave are picking out the positives.

Fans have been getting increasingly frustrated with Oldham’s recent performances.

This weekend, they went 2-0 down against Northampton. After just 6 minutes, they were 1-0 down. In the 80th minute, they went 2-0 down and it looked like another loss was on the cards.

However, in the 85th minute, Wilson got one back. Four minutes later, Smith made it 2-2.

This is a complete turn around from the start of the season. Oldham used to be the ones who would be winning 2-0 and ending up with draws.

There will still be some fans conplaining about the timings of these goals. However, here’s 2 positives they will take from the draw…

Bouced back

Even though the two goals only came after Northampton had already scored theirs, at least Oldham bounced back.

There was a fight in the team which is what fans want to see. Effectively, it doesn’t matter when those goals come right now, as long as they do.

Fouls

When you look at the stats from the game, Oldham didn’t pick up any yellow or red cards.

Some fans might not care too much for this. However, it’s a move in the right direction for Oldham because they’ve recently had players suspended for too many yellow cards or reds.

Oldham Athletic can build on win by lining up with this midfield against Northampton

Oldham will be looking to build on their recent results this weekend. They face Northampton and their midfield should line up like this.

Recently, Oldham fans have been quite frustrated. However, a 2-0 win over Walsall last week and a 0-0 draw with Port Vale have lifted their spirits a little.

They now sit 19th in the league. They have a tough game on thwir hands this weekend as they face an 8th placed Northampton.

However, they are at home so that factor may help. If they want to earn some more points this weekend, this is how their midfield should line up…

Jonny Smith

The 22 year is quite comfortable on the left. He handelled the Port Vale game well.

Now he will be looking to build on his last performance as he adapts to League Two.

Christopher Missilou

The defensive midfielder acts as a bit of a leaded in the middle.

He also works well with Smith and should be at the side of him go guide him.

Chris McCann

The experienced midfielder only joined Oldham on the 18th of October.

He was thrown straight into the team and has coped extremely well.

Filipe Morais

The right winger got sent off a few weeks ago which was a big blow.

However, now that he’s back, he should definitely be in the squad. If there are any problems or if he gets cautioned, Chris Eagles can always replace him.

Oldham Athletic need to make this one change for back-to-back wins

Oldham Athletic won 2-0 against Walsall this week. In order to keep up this form, there’s one big change they’ll need to make.

When Oldham fans start to read this article, they’ll be thinking that the changes need to one from current owners and management.

However, I have picked out something related to the team that will help with performances.

There’s a certain player on the team that fans are unhappy with. He wasn’t available against Walsall and Oldham ended up winning…

Mohamed Maouche

The central midfielder has been disappointing so far this season. However, he kept getting picked to start each game.

He then picked up too many yellow cards and ended up getting suspended. When he wasn’t available this week, the team performed better and fans were happy.

Therefore, dropping him from the starting line up is something that needs to be considered.

Performance

Oldham manager, Dino Maamria has said he was really happy with the performance his team displayed against Walsall.

However, fans are saying that they don’t understand how he’s happy. In their opinion, the performance still wasn’t great.

This is the difference with other teams and management. Even though they’ve got a win, Maarmria needs to be realistic and tell his squad that more is needed from them.

’And we still have fans moaning.’ Oldham Athletic fans react to their win over Walsall

Oldham Athletic faced Walsall last night at home. The Latics desperately needed three points and that’s exactly what they got in a 2-0 win.

All the action from the game came in the second half. Scott Wilson put Oldham 1-0 up after 53 minutes.

This came just after Walsall’s Matt Sadler was sent off for a hand ball. Segbe Azankpo then made it 2-0 to the Latics and they took all 3 points.

This was a much needed win for Oldham, however, some fans still aren’t happy. The Latics need to be consistent and continue to claim points.

Here’s your reactions…

Two in, two out for Oldham Athletic tonight against Walsall

Oldham are desperate for points. They face Walsall tonight and are hoping to be rewarded with some. The Football Manc Cave have picked out 2 players that should start tonight and who should be dropped.

It’s safe to say that Oldham are having a tough time in League Two.

Ahead of tonight’s clash with Walsall, there’s a few players returning to the squad. However, there’s also a few who can’t play.

Tomas Egert is serving a three match ban. Mohammed Maouche and Mohamad Sylla are also suspended on yellow cards. Dylan Fage, Zak Mills and Johan Branger-Engone are all also out with injury.

However, Filipe Morais and Zeus De La Paz are both back in the squad. With this team news in mind, here’s 2 players who should be in the squad tonight. We are also addressing who should be dropped…

In: Filipe Morais

The ex Bolton player was sent off a couple of weeks ago but has now served his match ban.

Now that he’s available, he should be in that starting line-up. He does make an impact on the team but I personally think that frustrations led him to make a silly tackle that got him sent off.

In: Chris Eagles

Some fans will agree with me when I say that he deserves a chance. Even if he comes on as a substitute.

He seems to be stuck on the bench at Boundary Park and needs an opportunity. Fans want to see change so why not take a chance on a different player and see what he has to offer?

Out

With all the injuries and suspensions in the squad, it’s impossible to pick out 2 who should be dropped.

However, the suspension of Mohammed Maouche needs addressing. Fans don’t want him in the squad.

When he was replaced in Oldham’s last game, fans actually cheered. The fact that he isn’t available tonight should give Chris Eagles a chance to start. If that happens and he plays well, fans will cry out for him to start more often.

Toothless Oldham Athletic performance adds to the fans woes – ‘Every week seems to bring a new low’

Oldham Athletic’s latest defeat has infuriated the remaining Boundary Park faithful and left the club teetering near the foot of the table.

The win by Macclesfield at Boundary Park yesterday was especially frustrating for the Oldham fans, as the side looked devoid of ideas and spent much of the game chasing shadows.

Macclesfield on the other hand, despite their off the pitch problems, looked organised and were rarely troubled by Oldham. Who had their first shot on goal just before the half time whistle.

Maouche was once again the target for the fans ire and his substitution signalled ironic cheers from the terraces. Manager Dino Maamria must now look long and hard at his team selections and tactics if he is going to remain in his post.

For the long-suffering Oldham fans, each game adds to their stress. Despite the fact that there is only one relegation place this season, Latics fans would rather not be agonising about it so early in the season.

2 out of form Oldham Athletic players that should be nowhere near the starting 11 against Macclesfield

Oldham Athletic fans that read this heading will probably be shouting more than 2 names after recent performances. League Two is not going well for the Latics.

It has been a bit of a rollercoaster so far for Oldham. They started off poor. Then they recruited men like David Wheater. Things looked to be improving.

They sacked Laurent Banide. To top all this off, last week they lost 6-1 to Mansfield. Wheater scored an own goal, Morais and Egert both got red cards and they gave away a penalty.

There’s a lot to work on within the squad. However, we have picked out two players who have been under-performing and should be dropped…

Tom Hamer

The 19-year-old defender has a lot to learn. He has given away two penalties in tow games now.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a teenager. These mistimed tackles are probably coming out of frustration. At least he is attempting to make a challenge, just not in the right place at the right time.

Some fans think his future at Oldham will be doubted. The January transfer window may be something he benefits from. However, he needs to sit back and analyse other players performance.

Urko Vera

The centre forward joined the Latics on a free transfer last season. He gained a lot of doubters and they haven’t gone away.

Last weekend saw him go into the starting line up for the first time in a long time.

As soon as his name was spotted by fans, they started to mock him. It looked like he was picked to try and see if he could prove those doubters wrong. However, I think the score speaks for itself.

2 in-form players for Oldham Athletic that need to play Macclesfield this weekend

Oldham Athletic host Macclesfield this weekend. After last weekends horrifying result, the Latics will be hoping for a turnaround. The Football Manc Cave looks at two players who should get a game.

Every team has bad games and off days. However, Oldham will want to forget about last weekend entirely.

They lost 6-1 to Mansfield. David Wheater managed to put the ball in his own net. Morais and Egert both managed to get sent off with minutes between them. To top it off, a penalty was also given away.

Fans couldn’t believe what they were seeing. This weekend sees Oldham play at home which could be beneficial. They currently sit at 21st in the league while Macclesfield sits comfortably at 12th.

Here are two players that Oldham needs to give a chance to this weekend…

Chris Eagles

Eagles seem to make the bench every week but don’t get much game time.

However, things might change this weekend as Filipe Morais suspension could open up space for him.

Both ex Bolton players operate the right-wing. This could be a good opportunity for fans to see Eagles in action if he is picked as a replacement.

Jamie Stott

With Tomas Egert also being shown a red card last week, this opens up a centre back position.

Jamie Stott is a man who has been on the bench recently but this could be Bosnian chance to step up.

Oldham’s defence got very sloppy last weekend. An improvement needs to be made and quick.
