Transfer lowdown: Man United target Bruno Fernandes

Man Utd target Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United have been linked with Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes, with a deal looking close before next week’s deadline approaching.

According to the Mirror, there have been breakthrough talks for Man United with Sporting Lisbon’s representatives over a potential 55m move.

The Portuguese midfield maestro would be a key signing for Solskjaer, with Man United struggling for goals and assists from midfield. So far this season, Fernandes, in Liga NOS has 8 goals and 7 assists from 16 games.

Compare this to Man United’s 7 goals from midfield in the Premier League (3 – James, McTominay, 1 – Pereira) and 14 assists (6 – James, 3 – Pereira, 2 – Mata, Pogba, 1 – McTominay). Then Fernandes is a game-changer.

Last season the midfielder bagged 32 goals and 18 assists. The season before, that yielded 16 goals and 20 assists. Fernandes is not an overnight sensation, he has consistently produced since his move to Sporting Lisbon back in 2017.

The Portuguese international is at his strongest playing through the middle, even though he can play in an LW/RW role. He is the perfect attacking midfield, through balls, key passes and long shots are all high on his stats.

Fernandes has a range of passing in his locker. However, what is more, impressive is his goal to game ratio over the years – finding the back of the net 56 times in two and a half years in Lisbon.

However, Fernandes alone will not transform Man United. He will improve them no doubt, and ease the midfield pressure of course. Like most players from abroad, it could take time to bed into the rigours of Premier League life.

This is something Man Utd have not got, time. The fans are losing patience, fast. Solskjaer needs Fernandes to hit the ground running…should he make the move.

Man United fans feel Ole looks lost ‘If I was Ole I’d walk!’

Man Utd Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United produced one of their worst performances of the season last night at home to Burnley. A 2-0 defeat has further boiled the fans blood.

Burnley ended a winless run at Old Trafford dating back to 1962, with a 2-0 win. Goals from Chris Wood and a left-footed thunderbolt from Jay Rodriguez sealed the win after a solid display by Sean Dyche’s men.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men did have their chances in the first half to change the course of the match. With Martial not being able to find the back of the net from one of his 5 chances. Man Utd, in all, had 24 attempts on Nick Pope’s goal – compared to Burnley’s 5, with only 7 on target.

On the back of United’s worst start to a season in 30 years, fans of the Red Devils have not simmered down overnight. Furthermore, with a run of games coming up including Man City and Chelsea, alongside just over a week to go in the transfer window – it certainly is a crucial time in United’s recent history.

We take a look at some of the tweets floating around today…

2 other Man Utd players that should follow Matic out of the door in January

Man Utd midfielder Matic may be on the move

According to the Telegraph, midfielder Nemanja Matic is edging closer to a Man Utd exit in the January transfer window. A move that may be welcomed.

Apparently, Matic could be leaving Man Utd in January after he has received interest from other clubs. He has also fallen behind in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Scott McTominay and Fred are favoured more in the midfield of late. AC Milan and Inter Milan have supposedly shown Matic some interest and he looks like he is willing to go.

Some Man Utd fans would probably be happy to see him go. However, he wouldn’t be the only one.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be reluctant to sell some of his players as the future of others, like Paul Pogba, is still unknown. Alongside the lack of midfield options he has on his hands at the moment, OGS can not afford to lose another player in this area of his squad.

Here are two players who should follow Matic should he leave in January…

Man Utd defender Phil Jones

Most Man United fans would probably agree that Phil Jones needs to go. The 27-year-old has fallen way out of favour at Man United.

It is safe to say that Old Trafford wouldn’t exactly miss him. Man United are going through a time of developing young talent and moving forward.

It doesn’t look like Phil Jones is part of that plan, so why not let him go?

Ashley Young

Even though the 34-year-old still gets game time, some fans think his time at Old Trafford is up.

When January comes around, some fans may want to see a replacement for Young drafted in.

To get some new talent brought in when the transfer window opens, Man United will need to make some money and open up some spaces.

Who do you want to see leave Old Trafford?

‘Luke Shaw is done at United. Williams is everything he isn’t’ Man United fans react to an impressive display

Man United made it 5 wins from the last 6 games in all competitions with an impressive display against Brighton yesterday.

Amongst the many highlights throughout the team was young Brandon Williams, who has been impressive in recent outings.

While Luke Shaw is out injured, Williams is staking his claim for the left-back spot. Making his first Premier League start following appearances largely in the cup competitions, Williams once again impressed.

Making 4 tackles, 2 interceptions and a passing accuracy of 84.9%, the 19-year-old seems to have taken it all in his stride. Alongside Williams 6.98 rated game by whoscored.com. Man Utd ran out 3-1 winners with both Rashford and Martial bagging either side of a Propper own goal.

Man United fans are a happy bunch once again, with plenty of praise for their players…

Man United should sell these 7 players, agree?

According to The Express, former Chelsea midfielder, Craig Burley thinks Man United need to get rid of a few players. Do you agree with his choices?

Man United haven’t got off to the best start this Premier League campaign. They are being linked with different players every week.

With the transfer window opening in January, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to bring in some new talent.

However, could it be a chance for him to also get rid of some players? Well, ESPN pundit, Craig Burley has had his say on who they should be…

Selected seven

He thinks that Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Fred, Marcos Rojo, Nemanja Matic, Phil Jones and Ashley Young should find new clubs.

The former Chelsea player has given his reasonings too along with his picks.

Why?

Burley has said that Pogba needs to go because he is no longer needed. Jesse Lingard has had problems off the pitch and that is apparentley enough to get rid of him.

Fred is being outshone by Scott McTominay. Rojo is apparently a ‘headache waiting to happen.’ Matic’s legs have ‘gone’ according to the pundit.

Phil Jones is ‘deadwood’ also. Finally, Ashley Young should also go because he simply isn’t needed with his current performances. Do you agree?

‘Welcome back Martial, you have been missed.’ Man United fans react to their win

The Football Manc Cave are looking at your reactions to Man United’s 3-0 win over Partizan last night.

Old Trafford hosted an eventful game yesterday. Man United faced Partizan again in the Europa League and were hoping for another win.

In the first 10 minutes, both teams had a goal disallowed. There was also a lot of good play and shots which is what fans wanted to see.

Soon after, 18 year old Mason Greenwood put Man United 1-0 up after a controlled pass from Marcus Rashford.

Anthony Martial then made it 2-0 to the Reds. In the second half, Marcus Rashford eventually got a goal.

Teenage goal scorer, Greenwood also got Man of the Match too. Here are your reactions to the win…

Man United want these 3 Valencia players

According to The Express, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is interested in 3 Valenica players. It looks like Man United are looking everywhere for recruits.

Man United haven’t had the best start to this Premier League campaign. They have been linked with a lot of different players ahead of the transfer window.

January could be a busy time for the Red Devil’s. The newest rumours are that Solskjaer is interested in a few Valencia players.

It is unlikely that Man United will pull off all three signings. However, by having options to choose from, atleast one could be on their way to Old Trafford.

Jose Gaya

The left back could cost Man United a lot of money. However, money shouldn’t really be a problem.

Brandon Williams is currently being expected to fill this position. The only problem is, he is young and inexperienced. Gaya would be a good fit.

Carlos Soler

Old Trafford need a right winger. Soler could operate that role. He is also versatile.

He can work in the middle of the pitch as well offering a new option to Solskjaer.

Ferran Torres

The right winger has made a name for himself in the LaLiga and is also wanted at Man United.

However, Solskjaer has admitted that bringing players in, in January will be hard.

2 Reasons why bringing Smalling back from Roma is essential for Man United

According to The Daily Star, Man United have rejected a £13 million bid for Chris Smalling. Here are two reasons why he is needed back at Old Trafford.

The defender is currently out on loan at Roma until the end of the season. However, the Italian giants have been impressed by his performances.

So much so that they put an offer in for the player. However, Ed Woodward rejected this as he is holding out for at least £17 million.

Smalling is said to be flattered by the apparent interest from Inter Milan and AC Milan. However, he has settled into the Italy lifestyle. He supposedly wants to stay with Roma.

Appeal

Man United should definitely try to keep Smalling. Their form of recent hasn’t been great and Man United don’t have the appeal to players like they used to.

So why not bring back their own players and take advantage of it.

Experience

The defender has now got a lot of experience from playing out in Roma.

He would be bringing that back to the Premier League. However, they would need to make sure he is happy to return.

Man United’s starting 11 should look like this tonight

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side take on Partizan Belgrade tonight in the Europa League. Man United could seal qualification with 2 games to spare with this starting line up.

This game could give some first team regulars a chance to rest. If Man United are confident enough that they will qualify, some youngsters could get a look in.

Players like Marcus Rashford, Fred, Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka could get a rest. Why waste their energy that could be used in the league?

With that in mind, here is my prediction of how they could line up…

Team

A 4-2-3-1 formation could see things change up a bit. There’s enough help in each area of the squad.

Youngsters

Solskjaer should also use this opportunity to use the young team members and give them a start.

18 year old James Garner could get a look in helping Scott McTominay. 19 year old Brandon Williams could help out in defence. However, eyes may be on 18 year old Mason Greenwood to see whether he could deliver up-front.

Man United set to miss their main man for another 4 weeks

According to ESPN, Man United will be without Paul Pogba for a little longer than planned. Even when he is recovered, they will want to be cautious with him.

The French international broke a bone in his right ankle at the end of September. He has been wearing a plaster cast ever since.

The cast will be removed in 10 days. However, the midfielder will need another 2 weeks of rehab after that.

It will only be then when Pogba will be able to train again. Man United are hoping he will be back before the end of December.

Return

Apparently, Paul Pogba is desperately wanting to make his return. He has even been in Dubai for treatment.

Man United are clearly struggling without him. However, they will have to be careful and not rush him back into action too soon.

A goal scorer is needed but a fit and healthy player is more important.
