Man United & Man City Women both rack up wins in the League Cup

Both Manchester sides were in action this weekend in the FA Women’s Super League Cup. Man United faced Everton while Man City faced Birmingham.

Man United have been storming the Super League. Meanwhile, Man City have been struggling.

Nick Cushing’s’ side were recently knocked out of the Champions League. They lost to Arsenal in the league and to Man United in the FA Cup.

However, Casey Stoney’s side have beaten the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham, Reading and now they can add Everton to that list.

Man United

The Red Devil’s travelled to Everton. They managed a 3-0 win. It’s hard to believe that this Man United side were only promoted this season, let alone formed a couple of years ago.

Goals from Lauren James, Katie Zelem and Amy Turner meant that Man United won. This also takes them to the top of their FA Cup group.

Man City

Nick Cushing’s side hosted Birmingham City. After a few disappointing weeks, they managed a 2-1 win.

Ellen White opened the scoring against her former club. Caroline Weir also got her name on the score sheet after scoring a screamer. This takes Man City to 3rd in the group.

Man City Women will be looking to bounce back by dropping these 2 players

Nick Cushing has got some serious work to do with Man City Women. Their form has been poor recently and with that in mind, here’s two players who should be dropped.

It was an amazing start to Man City’s season in all competitions. Things looked to be going great.

However, things have changed since then. They lost to Man United in the FA Cup. Then they lost to Arsenal. To top it off, they lost to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this week.

Things have been quite disappointing. A lot of fans think that Nick Cushing has done all he can with the club. That is why this is a hard pick because maybe it is the management that needs a shake up.

That aside, here’s two players who need to be on the bench instead of in the starting line up against Birmingham…

Ellen White

Don’t get me wrong, White is one of my favourite players. I have been waiting to see her in a Man City shirt for a long time.

However, she has only just returned from injury. The rest of the team have gelled. Maybe she would benefit from being on the bench and being brought on to change things up.

Georgia Stanway

Another player who has only just returned from injury. When she is at her best, she never stops and is a threat on the pitch.

Although, she could benefit from being broight back into the squad slowly instead of being thrown in at the deep end.

2 Undroppable players Man United Women can’t afford to not be in the starting 11

Man United Women are unstoppable at the minute. They will be looking to do even better against Everton this weekend.

Casey Stoney’s side are showing the Women’s Super League what they are made of. They are currently 4th in the league.

Man United have managed to beat Reading 2-0 recently. They managed to beat Man City in the league and even beat Liverpool.

At the start of the season, they lost to Man City. It looked like they might struggle in this league. However, they have proven everyone wrong.

With that in mind, here’s two players who have been standing out recently and should stay in the starting 11…

Jess Sigsworth

The striker has been on top form recently. Especially when it comes to scoring.

She managed to score against Man City and Reading. This looks to have given her confidence.

Katie Zelem

The new Man United Captain has taken her new role very seriously. It also seems to have been an effective decision.

She has also delivered a couple of goals so far this season. One against Liverpool and one against Man City. This should drive her for more.

3 lessons Man City Women will have learnt

Last night, Man City women played Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Unfortunately, they lost 2-1 and here are three things they would have learned from the game.

Man City really wanted to do well in the competition this year.

Nick Cushing had also spoken about how much he wanted his team to do well in the competition. So my guess is that there will be a lot of upset in the Man City camp today.

However, they have to take some lessons away from the game and here’s three that I have come up with…

Too little too late

Man City went 2-0 down and desperately needed an equaliser. It was only at the last stages of the game that the formation was changed and they pushed an attack.

Pauline Bremer scored to get one back but it wasn’t enough. Imagine if the changes had have come earlier. Maybe the result would have been different.

For a team that wanted it so much, it certainly seemed like there was no backup plan until it was too late.

Aoife Mannion is currently out. Since then, Man City’s defence has been a bit unsettled.

This was obvious last night as Steph Houghton even scored an own goal. Some work needs to be done at the back going forward.

Nick Cushing

Some fans are now claiming that Cushing has taken Man City as far as he could.

Fans are also saying that the squad have a lot more to give than what Nick can guide them to do. Is it time for him to go?

Man City women need these 2 stars to perform tonight

Nick Cushing’s Man City women will travel to Atletico Madrid tonight. This is the second leg of the Champions League round.

At the start of this season, Man City were doing brilliantly. They were winning in all competitions.

Nick Cushing recently admitted that he wanted to try and win the Champions League this season.

Since then things have gone a little bit wrong for the blues.

They drew with Atletico Madrid, 1-1 at home. However they get another chance to play them tonight.

They don’t get a chance to replay the cup and League fixtures though. They lost 2-0 to Man United recently in the women’s Super League FA Cup. Keira Walsh was also sent off in that game.

They also lost 1-0 to Arsenal in the league. Tonight they will be looking to pick themselves up and with that in mind here’s two players who need to to stand out…

Georgia Stanway

Georgia is a very dangerous player. However she was injured earlier in the season and missed a few games for Man City.

Now that she’s back and fully fit she will be looking to impress tonight to make sure Man City win.

Ellie Roebuck

The Man City goalkeeper has been a standout performer so far this season.

I saw Roebuck in action against Man United this season. She exceeded my expectations and will be looking to keep Man City in the Champions League tonight.

2 things we learnt from Man City Women’s draw with Atletico Madrid

Man City women faced Atlético Madrid on Wednesday night in their next round of the Champions League. The game ended 1-1. Who goes through to the next stage will now be decided in an away leg.

Nick Cushing’s side started off really well and went 1-0 up. However, they ended up conceding in the second half and couldn’t find a winner.

It wasn’t the typical blues performance that fans were used to. Man City are top of the Women’s Super League. They’ve done well in all competitions and even won their first Champions League clash, 7-1.

Now they will have to wait to see their fate in the competition because the draw won’t give them any ease in the next round.

However, there are a few reasons to why Man City may have under-performed. The Champions League is adding another game onto their weekly schedule. It’s probably tiring them out.

They also have a few players like Georgia Stanway out injured. Also, Atlético are are a brilliant side.

Here’s two things that fans learned from the performance…

Ellie Roebuck

Ellie Roebuck has been filling in as the first choice keeper at Man City. In the first game of the season against Man United, I witnessed her make some amazing saves.

Although, I didn’t know if she would be consistent. However, she has proven me wrong. Last night, she was one talking point from a lot of people.

If it wasn’t for her, Man City could have conceded a few more. She is world-class.

Sorry to be negative here but Nick Cushing said after the match that his side seemed to lose concentration.

I’ve watched the highlights and I have to agree. It looked like they were so focussed on the fact they had scored that they forgot they needed to keep it that way.

Like I said earlier, they have an extra fixture to fulfil in their schedule so tiredness will come. However, if they want to succeed in the Champions League this season, they will have to keep it going for the full 90 minutes.

Man City Women need to give these two a rest against Atlético Madrid tonight, agree?

Man City women have been doing great in all competitions so far this season. Nick Cushing desperately wants his side to win the Champions League.

In order to do that, they’ll have to get past Atlético Madrid this week. The Football Manc Cave are looking at two players who should be rested.

Even though Cushing will put out a team aiming to win the Champions League clash, he’s still got to consider the league.

Man City are currently top of the Women’s Super League and are the ones to beat. However, getting past Atlético Madrid this week will take priority.

Here are two players who may benefit from being rested during this clash. Whether it be starting them on the bench or leaving them to rest ready for the weekend.

Pauline Bremer

Bremer has had a great season so far. However, she picked up a slight injury before last weekends game.

Rather than play her and make it worse, Cushing should keep her rested until the weekend when Man City play Man United again.

Cushing has said that he will make a decision on her closer to the game. If she doesn’t get a start then, she will be featured against Man United.

Georgia Stanway

She’s been a stand out performer for Man City and England. However, she is another player who picked up an injury earlier on in the season.

She has been seen back in training with the blues but that doesn’t mean she should be started.

Cushing should keep her out of action and assess whether she is up to playing on Sunday. The last thing he needs is any of his players coming back before they’re ready.

Man City Women looking to continue their great start this weekend…

Nick Cushing’s side has had a brilliant start to their season in all areas. The Football Manc Cave is taking you through what’s to come this weekend.

I went to Man City’s first game of the season at the Etihad against Man United women and even though they won 1-0, they didn’t impress too much as it seemed a little bit sloppy. A lot of fans said that their performance would need to improve if they were going to contend for the title.

I know they still have some improvements to make, however, their recent score sheets prove that they are working on their mistakes and as a Man City Women’s fan, I am happy.

So they took all three points on the opening game of the season and they had their Champions League opening clash. They travelled to Lugano and won 7-1. They then came back to the UK and played Reading away and won 2-0.

They’ve managed to keep two league clean sheets and win, then they’ve managed to succeed in the Champions League. However, Everton has also opened their campaign with a 1-0 win and a 2-0 win so they are joint top of the Women’s Super League.

This Week:

This Sunday at 2pm will see Man City take on Leicester City Women at home in the FA WSL Cup. So this is another competition they will try to succeed in. It shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the Blues as Leicester are in the Women’s Super League 2 and sit at 10th out of 11th. Although, anything can happen.

And that’s why Man City need to stay focused, as they will then have their second leg of the Champions League a few days after this clash with Leicester. The weekend after they will play Everton away, and they will both be looking to beat one another to fight for that top spot.

Team News:

In terms of who’s been playing well and should remain in that starting line up, goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck has been brilliant and been receiving a lot of praise. She kept Man City in the game against United and she has been just as consistent with the other games.

Caroline Weir has shown what she can do with the ball from a great distance and Pauline Bremer has also been performing brilliantly as she scored both goals against Reading. She has returned from injury and showed what she is capable of. Let’s hope the Blues can keep it up.

How Man City Women’s line up could look like against Man Utd Women

Before the Women’s Super League gets started, the Football Manc Cave has predicted what we think Man City’s opening team could look like.

A few days ago it was revealed that the blues will face their newly promoted rivals, Manchester United, to start off the new season. A lot of Nick Cushing’s side have been out in France competing in the World Cup. They may come back a little deflated but hopefully, the players know that they have drawn in a much bigger number of fans than ever before.

With that being said, I’ve picked out what I think could be the starting 11 players for their opening game against Casey Stoney’s side.

The obvious choice for the ‘keepers position has to be Bardsley, after her impressive World Cup form. Roebuck should be on the bench as she did get a few starts last season, and will probably be eased into the squad more and more as the season goes on.

City’s back four are extremely strong and all quite versatile in terms of positions. I’ve picked Morgan, Bonner, Stokes and obviously the captain, Steph Houghton. I was so impressed by her World Cup performance and had so much sympathy for her when she missed the penalty in the semi-final. I hope she’s not too hard on herself, comes back fighting and helps Man City win the Super League this season. There’s always the options of Campbell and Fidalgo as back up.

The midfield line up that I’ve gone with is consistent and strong with Weir, Walsh and another Lioness stand out, Jill Scott. I’ve also included new signing Laura Coombs who I think will have a really successful time at the Manchester side.

The hardest part of picking this team has definitely been the strikers. If Cushing’s didn’t already have a long list of forwards to choose from, they definitely do now with Ellen White being added to the options.

I know that Man City will treat the derby just like the men’s teams and fans do, and they will be out to win. This is why I think White will be given a chance after the World Cup performance that she produced, and Stanway should be her partner up front. They have the options of Wullaert, Beckie, Bremer and Hemp on the bench.

Man City Women Must Tick Off These 2 Things Before The Season Starts – Agree?

Nick Cushing’s may be out for his squad to win the Super League this season but what can he and his team do to ensure that?

After City finished 2nd in the Women’s Super League last season, I think they’ll be hugely pushing for a first-place finish this campaign. With Man United now in the same league and women’s football interest growing, what will Man City women need to do in order to have a successful season?

World Cup

A lot of the City team are out in France right now for the World Cup. They have done well not to pick up many injuries while they’re out there so far although they will come back fatigued.

Another factor that will have to be considered is the result of the current competition. The heartbreak of the semi-final defeat will hit a lot of the player’s hard. However, the experience in defeat can only aid the individuals and the team for the better. They may come back a little deflated but they absolutely cannot let it get in the way of the players that work so brilliantly together. Houghton, White, Scott and Bardsley are just a few names that will be deemed legends off the back of the World Cup, no matter what happens.

I have been saying this since the WSL opening fixtures and I strongly stick by this. With the record-breaking viewers that England has drawn in over the World Cup, the leagues have now surely got to draw in more people.

With this in mind, I think City will benefit from getting their opening game against Man United played at the Etihad, to draw in a huge audience and just to show how they can drive the sport forward. Then Man United should push for the same to happen at Old Trafford. I think it’s a great influence on the rest of the season and the sport moving forward.
