Man City’s loan, buy & sell list this transfer window – Agree?

What would be the perfect summer transfer window for the Champions of England Manchester City. The Football Manc Cave takes a look.

It is arguable that the Manchester City squad is close to perfection in the vision of the esteemed manager Pep Guardiola. After a sweep of domestic success last season, Manchester City is only a Champions League away from being considered one of the world’s greatest football teams in modern football.

Today, The Football Manc Cave will provide options for a ‘loan’, a ‘buy’ and a ‘sell’. For what can improve the Man City squad next season and see them lift the mouth-watering Champions League trophy.

Loan

Manchester City has a squad full of talent, experience and quality. This can prevent the development of the youth within Guardiola’s ranks. Talks of Phillippe Sandler being loaned to Vincent Kompany’s Anderlecht are currently in progress, which is a smart move for the blues.

Other players such as Zinchenko and Claudio Gomes should be loaned out to lower-table Premier League or Championship level teams. Who can provide them with a full season of English football. Making them better, stronger and more equipped to handle the pressures of the competition upon their return.

Sell

It’s hard to tell a team of champions that some of their players don’t cut the bill. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean the individuals don’t have the talent to perform at the top level. Leroy Sane, for example, is a fantastic young winger who could potentially clinch a spot in any team in world football. However, he has spent most of his time on the bench under Guardiola, and the 23-year-old is at an important point in his career where he needs first team football.

Buy

Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala are two centre-backs that have gone unnoticed in the Man City squad, due to falling behind Laporte and Stones in the rankings, and both should be sold. John Stones’ dubious performances for England in the Nations League could demonstrate a lack of confidence in important matches. Bringing in a top quality centre-back to push his performances could be key to his development next season, as he currently faces little to no competitions for his centre-back spot.

With the status of Manchester City, they should rightfully be joining the races for the world’s greatest defenders such as Van Dijk for Liverpool, De Ligt rumoured for Juventus, Maguire rumoured for Manchester United. Guardiola should be looking for the likes of Manolas, Skriniar, Sergio Ramos, Koulibaly etc.

TO-DO LIST: Man Utd must tick of these 3 things before the season starts – Agree?

Manchester United may be close to Liverpool and City on the map but are worlds away in terms of football. What can Solskjaer do pre-season to close the gap on his rivals?

Ole Gunnar Solskaer is in the midst of rebuilding his Manchester United squad, despite the lack of support and enthusiasm from his board.

As opposed to City and Liverpool who merely need minor tweaks to their squad, Manchester United need an ultimate glow up; a complete overhaul.

In terms of preparing for the new season, the majority of Solskjaer’s tasks will involve transfers, amongst other things.

Here are 3 things Solskjaer can do to prepare his team for success next season…

Get the players

Manchester United successfully replaced Valencia and Young by bringing in England’s most promising full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. However, the shambolic defence needs a world-class centre-back in order to compete for top four, the likes of Magure and Koulibaly should have whatever they need thrown at them to get them into Manchester United’s suave new strip.

Manchester United also need to apprehensively replace want-away players such as Pogba and Lukaku, therefore two further world-class players are needed to plug the holes that will inevitably appear.

Ruthlessness

Solskjaer mentioned being ‘ruthless’ in conferences towards the end of the 18/19 campaign, yet disappointing players such as Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard etc were constantly being played despite a dramatic lack of form.

The term ‘deadwood’ has been thrown around the club by fans over the past season, and it’s time Solskjaer set aside his friendship with players and looked at what is best for his team.

One more preparation season

Man Utd fans are very restless and impatient with the performance of their team since the departure of Sir Alex, they have gone six years without a Premier League title. Next season should be a season where Solskjaer can establish his squad and secure a top 4 finish before applying further amendments to the squad in order to fight for the title the season after.

LOWDOWN: Who is Man Utd target Denzel Dumfries

It appears that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may prefer an attacking full-back in Denzel Dumfries over the defensive-minded Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

If you’ve never heard of Denzel Dumfries, you may recognise him from the recent UEFA Nations League Semi-Final as part of the Dutch setup that snubbed out England. Dumfries had a good game at full-back, proving to be a handful for the likes of Sterling and Sancho.

He had an impressive season in the Dutch League ‘Eredivisie’, being in every starting 11 for PSV Eindhoven with 34 appearances which involved 4 goals and 7 assists. Comparing this to current full-back Ashley Young’s 2018/19 Premier League season, which saw the Manchester United captain bag only 2 goals and 2 assists in 30 games. It shows that this young Dutchman could provide more for this underperforming Manchester United attack, which desperately needs the ball on a plate in order to score goals.

Should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer entice a world-class centre-back to Manchester United, such as De Ligt, Maguire or Koulibaly. It may allow more room for a free and attacking full-back, whilst a solid defender can cover for him behind.

According to very recent reports, Manchester United are looking to sign the young Dutchman Denzel Dumfries, 23 years of age, for around £25million. Half of what Crystal Palace expect for the services of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. By saving £25million on the right-back position it should allow Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to spend bigger in other areas, especially with the rumoured departures of the big names at Old Trafford including the likes of Paul Pogba, David De Gea and Romelu Lukaku.

It is clear that Solskjaer is somewhat trying to replicate the old-school setup of Manchester United. Having recently acquired the Welsh winger Daniel James, who will be crucial to Manchester United’s counter-attacking format.

Denzel Dumfries comes at a much lower price than Wan-Bissaka despite being two years older, but this is due to Wan-Bissaka being young, English and Premier League proven. Wan-Bissaka would surely bolster the arguably terrible Manchester United defence, but Solskjaer may risk this in order to develop a more fast-paced and counter-attacking Manchester United unit.

THE LOWDOWN: Who is Kalidou Koulibaly and What Can He Bring to Man United

Kalidou Koulibaly has established himself as one of the best centre-backs around in recent season with his impressive performances with Napoli.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs major defensive reinforcements this summer, as it’s been widely reported on. A defensive pairing of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones doesn’t frighten many attackers, and success is built from the back with a decent foundation – As well the Norwegian knows.

In what is going to be a defining window at Old Trafford, a high class and strong defender is going to be high on the priority list.

Looking across Europe, in what is going to be a tight market, they’re not going to be many that are much better than the Senegalese international. With Napoli knowing this and slapping a reported record fee of 150m on his head, despite his 63m rating by Transfermarkt.

The 27-year-old has a strong passing game amongst other attributes, which would be perfect for Solskjaer’s plan of turning defence into attack with his own brand of attacking football. Carlo Ancelotti recently described the defender as one of the best in the world, so his talent is there for all to see and is no wonder United are trying to get him signed up as soon as possible.

He would also come with a wealth of experience under his belt having played Champions League football and featured in a very exciting Napoli side in Serie A.

The Red Devils can not gamble on a defender with potential, they have that already in Victor Lindelof. Solskjaer needs a player that can bring the Swede on, potentially pairing him up with Koulibaly who is entering his peak years could be a stroke of genius if Ole can pull it off.

Man United fans, what do you make of Koulibaly – would he welcomed addition to Old Trafford?
