Two players that impressed in Rochdale’s win over Bradford City

Rochdale travelled to Bradford City last night in the Leasing.com trophy. Even though they won 2-1, other results in their group have stopped Dale from progressing. However, there was a lot of talent in the squad.

Bradford went 1-0 up last night after 15 minutes. Rochdale then woke up and an equaliser came after 29 minutes.

In an eventful first half, Fabio Tavares also managed to score meaning that Rochdale would win 2-1. The side then managed to keep on top of their win throughout the second half.

Rochdale have been treating this competition as an experiment for their squad. They have been mixing youth team members with experienced players.

It was definitely the youngsters who came through last night. However, it is just unfortunate that Rochdale couldn’t progress to the next round.

They had a tough group to compete in. Bolton Wanderers and Man City Under 21’s have gone through in their group. Putting that aside, here are two stand out players from last night…

Joe Dunne

The 17-year-old deserves all the praise after last night’s performance. He made his debut in the squad and is a future star.

Dunne is a centre half who was put into the squad to see how he played. He definitely impressed with strong blocks, getting stuck into every ball and performing to a great standard.

This is great for the teenager who will now be monitored by Brian Barry-Murphy. He surely has made an impact on fans and management after last night.

Rochdale’s 18 y/o Fabio Tavares

The 18-year-old striker is a name that Rochdale fans will be familiar with. This is because he has already been featured in the first-team squad.

However, last night saw him shine due to being in a younger squad. He is another rising star in the Dale squad.

His goal in the 35th minute was the final goal of the game. This goes to show that not only can the Rochdale squad produce goals, they can also defend well too.

Two in, two out for Rochdale tonight against MK Dons

Rochdale will be looking to make it three wins in three tonight as they face MK Dons. The Football Manc Cave are looking at 2 players who should be in the starring 11 to help take all three points. We are also picking 2 that should be dropped.

After Rochdale’s win at Bolton this weekend, Brian Barry-Murphy will be looking for another three points.

Unfortunately, each week there seems to be a new injury at the Dale. This week it’s goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez.

However, Brian Barry-Murphy’s team are still pulling out winning performances. Here’s 2 players who should be in that starting line up and 2 who should be on the bench…

In: Ollie Rathbone

He was in he squad that beat Bolton and he did get a start. However, the 23 year old should be rewarded with his efforts at the weekend by being started again.

The centre midfielder put Rochdale 2-1 up against Bolton. He also encouraged the third goal. His confidence will definitely improve if he starts again.

In: Fabio Tavares

The 18 year old came on in the second half of the Bolton game and he bagged the third goal. It was also his first senior goal.

If he doesn’t get a start tonight, Barry-Murphy should definitely bring him on again as a substitute. He could make the difference in getting Dale the 3 points.

Out: MJ Williams

This isn’t because the 23 year old had a bad game. However, he did get substituted in the second half against Bolton for Aaron Wilbraham.

I think it may be more tactical for Barry-Murphy to have him on the bench. He can play as centre back or a midfielder so wherever is lacking consistency, he can replace someone.

Out: Aaron Morley

Again, he hasn’t been playing poorly, but the 19 year old may benefit from a rest.

If he was on the bench, Brian Barry-Murphy could bring him on as reinforcement.

The final touches: What BBM should be getting right in Rochdale’s training this week

It’s nearly the start of the season and as most teams come to an end of their pre-season campaign’s. The Football Manc Cave are looking at two things Brian Barry-Murphy should have his team working on before the season gets underway.

Rochdale haven’t had a bad pre-season run and it’s looking like new manager, Brian Barry-Murphy has adapted to his role well. The players are also looking as if they have been motivated by their new manager.

The Dale faced one last friendly against Hyde United before they can start their new season and there will surely be a few training sessions to come before we get to see their League campaign. With that in mind, here are two things that Brian Barry-Murphy should have his lads working on this week.

Youth

Proving that he’s a very organised man in charge, Murphy released his youthful squad that will face Hyde United a day before the game would take place. He has a very young and fresh line up which will give him the chance to see Rochdale’s youngsters in action and how they handle the pressure.

While this gives the senior squad members rest and keeps them from injury before the start of the season, it also gives Brian Barry-Murphy a chance to pick out the best. He will have the likes of 16-year-old Luke Matheson and 18-year-old Fabio Tavares aiming to impress. If any of the youth can live up to senior squad standards, they should be put through their paces in the last training sessions of the summer.

Adaptation

This summer has seen scholarship players such as Harrison Hopper, Lewis Bradley and Fabio Tavares sign professional contracts. It has also seen new players like Jimmy Ryan sign for the club. Robert Sanchez has also signed for Dale on loan from Brighton.

It seems a lot of changes have been made within the squad and there will definitely be more as the season goes on. However, this will be a test for Brian Barry-Murphy as he will have to get these new and young players to adapt to senior football and to be a part of a new team. Hopefully, he will use these next few training sessions before the season starts to get the team gelling and flowing nicely.

Three players who must impress BBM against Hyde tonight for Rochdale

As most teams pre-season campaign comes to a close, The Football Manc Cave are looking at Rochdale to see which players should look to impress in their last friendly against Hyde United.

A very organised Brian Barry-Murphy has already picked out his squad that will play against Hyde. It’s a very youthful Dale side, although he can afford to put out an inexperienced team to give himself and fans an insight into the youngsters in the team.

This also gives the senior squad a rest ahead of the start of the season. The line up picked out consists of, Wade, Matheson, Kinsella, Lee, Dunne, Clarkson, Chorlton, Gillam, Moreland, Bradley and Tavares. Before this team gets underway at Ewen Fields, here’s three of the squad members who should look to impress their manager and the fans.

Bradley Wade

Wade is a 19-year-old goalkeeper who has come through the ranks at Rochdale and has been with the club since he was 15 years old. He’s been a key member of the youth squads at Dale and now that he has become a senior squad member, he will be looking to impress.

Another factor that will influence his performance is that Rochdale has recently signed Robert Sanchez on loan from Brighton, and he has recently started a friendly for the club. This knocks Wade further down in the pecking order for Brian Barry Murphy’s choices. This should mean that Wade will be looking to put on his best performance against Hyde.

Luke Matheson

The 16-year-old has had a good career so far, as he’s had 2 senior appearances already for Dale and he has appeared for England’s Under 17’s team once. The defender is obviously very young, however, he will be looking to impress. He will want to boost his own playing experience and he will also want to get a chance at regular football.

If Matheson can show what he’s capable of, he could gain credit from his current manager, interest from other clubs with him being so young and also interest from England’s other youth teams.

Fabio Tavares

Another young player who will be looking to prove himself. He only signed his first professional contract this summer with Dale along with Harrison Hopper and Lewis Bradley. Tavares has also been with the club since he was 15 and has been a big part of the youth squads. He has bagged over 40 goals throughout his two-year scholarship.

Now that he is part of the senior squad, he will be looking to impress not only the fans but Brian Barry Murphy and the team. Lewis Bradley has also been named in the squad to face Hyde so the pair will hopefully be able to show how they can produce good football together.
