Man United & Man City Women both rack up wins in the League Cup

Both Manchester sides were in action this weekend in the FA Women’s Super League Cup. Man United faced Everton while Man City faced Birmingham.

Man United have been storming the Super League. Meanwhile, Man City have been struggling.

Nick Cushing’s’ side were recently knocked out of the Champions League. They lost to Arsenal in the league and to Man United in the FA Cup.

However, Casey Stoney’s side have beaten the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham, Reading and now they can add Everton to that list.

Man United

The Red Devil’s travelled to Everton. They managed a 3-0 win. It’s hard to believe that this Man United side were only promoted this season, let alone formed a couple of years ago.

Goals from Lauren James, Katie Zelem and Amy Turner meant that Man United won. This also takes them to the top of their FA Cup group.

Man City

Nick Cushing’s side hosted Birmingham City. After a few disappointing weeks, they managed a 2-1 win.

Ellen White opened the scoring against her former club. Caroline Weir also got her name on the score sheet after scoring a screamer. This takes Man City to 3rd in the group.

Man City Women will be looking to bounce back by dropping these 2 players

Nick Cushing has got some serious work to do with Man City Women. Their form has been poor recently and with that in mind, here’s two players who should be dropped.

It was an amazing start to Man City’s season in all competitions. Things looked to be going great.

However, things have changed since then. They lost to Man United in the FA Cup. Then they lost to Arsenal. To top it off, they lost to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this week.

Things have been quite disappointing. A lot of fans think that Nick Cushing has done all he can with the club. That is why this is a hard pick because maybe it is the management that needs a shake up.

That aside, here’s two players who need to be on the bench instead of in the starting line up against Birmingham…

Ellen White

Don’t get me wrong, White is one of my favourite players. I have been waiting to see her in a Man City shirt for a long time.

However, she has only just returned from injury. The rest of the team have gelled. Maybe she would benefit from being on the bench and being brought on to change things up.

Georgia Stanway

Another player who has only just returned from injury. When she is at her best, she never stops and is a threat on the pitch.

Although, she could benefit from being broight back into the squad slowly instead of being thrown in at the deep end.

Man City women should line up with this midfield tonight with Everton in mind

Nick Cushing’s side has gotten off to a great start in all competitions and tonight will see them face Lugano again in the second leg of the first Champions League round.

In the first leg of this round, Man City went 1-0 down only to come on top and end up winning 7-1. Georgia Stanway, Pauline Bremer and Caroline Weir were a few of the goal scorers from the game.

A few things to consider in the midfield that, although the impressive women’s side will go out with the intentions of winning again tonight, they face Everton this weekend in the Women’s Super League. Both teams are joint at the top which will see them both looking for a win to take an early lead in the table. Georgia Stanway is also injured at the minute so won’t be in the line-up.

Laura Coombs, Tyler Toland, Caroline Weir and Keira Walsh should all start in midfield, as they went out against Leicester at the weekend and managed to keep up standards in a 5-0 win. This will give players like Jill Scott and Emma Bissell a chance to rest on the bench but be brought on if needed.

One eye on the Women’s Super League

It will be interesting to see what side Nick Cushing puts out. However much he will want his side to do well in the Champions League, he will also have to consider the league game to come. Injuries will have him relying on others and then there’s players like Ellen White who have been out with injury but have recently come back into training.

If I had to guess, I think he will be telling his squad to go out with the intentions to win the game and defend well. However, they will be sure to keep one eye on the upcoming fixture at the weekend.

Man City Women are going to regret letting this player go

Man City women got off to a great start in the Women’s Super League and the Champions League, however, are they going to regret losing this player later down the line?

Nick Cushing’s side started sloppy against Man United in the opening game of the season but thanks to a bit of magic from Caroline Weir, they managed to take all three points. They were back in action again this week against Lugano and were much more impressive as they won 7-1.

Ahead of their campaign in the Women’s Super League, Nick Cushing’s has some recruiting to do and brought in England favourite, Ellen White. The only issue was, he had to let go of Nikita Parris. She signed for Olympique Lyon and is now playing alongside England teammate, Lucy Bronze.

Regrets

Man City won’t look back now that Parris has moved on, however, Nick Cushing may regret letting her go if the Blues manage to advance in the Champions League. 25-year-old Parris is a goal scorer and she’s proved that already for Lyon when she scored after only 3 minutes against Marseille.

Lyon is also second in their league after taking all 6 points from 2 games and their goal difference also stands on an impressive 11.

Man City obviously had a great opening campaign in the Champions League, although, so did Lyon. They managed to beat Ryazan 9-0. So let’s say both teams advance to the later stages of the competition, they could end up facing each other.

They’ve met before in the semi-final stages and Man City have been knocked out by Lyon. If this happens again, Nikita Parris could be a threat to the Blues and this is where the regrets will come from.

Man City has the strength and options of other talented players to fill positions, so they shouldn’t be too bothered by the loss of Parris until it comes to the latter stages of the Champions League.

Her experience and talent will see her perform well for Lyon and only get better. However, it will be nice for Parris to return to Manchester to see her old teammates, it just won’t be nice to see her being on the winning team if City can’t go all the way.

Man City women need to play these 2 to start the campaign with a win

Man City Women have a huge game on their hands this weekend and The Football Manc Cave are picking out two players who will make all the difference.

On Saturday, the opening game of the Women’s Super League will take place for Manchester City. The blues will be on a mission to win the league this season after competing with Arsenal for so long. The news of the opening fixtures broke way back at the beginning of the summer and it was revealed that Man City would host Man United.

The reds were only promoted at the end of last season and will be immediately going into one of the hardest games they’ll face and to add even more pressure, it will be at the Etihad Stadium. This will generate a huge audience who will be cheering on both teams in what will be a great derby. My prediction is that Man City will win, I’ve just not decided on the scoreline yet. Something I have decided on is two Man City players who have to play in this game in order to make sure they get all three points.

Steph Houghton

Probably the most obvious pick, I know. However, her World Cup campaign impressed me and many other fans so much. I can’t wait to see her in action on Saturday, not only for her defensive skill, determination, ambition and clearances but also for her leadership skills.

If anyone can keep her team calm and composed, it’s her. Even though it’s being televised, is at a huge stadium and has a lot of pressure riding on it, I think Steph will treat the game like any other and keep all her teammates calm and collected.

Ellen White

Another player who everyone was impressed by in the World Cup. If she plays on Saturday and manages to score, the fans will go wild. I know I will. She only joined Manchester City over the summer and she is my favourite Women’s footballer so, like many others, I had to see her in action this weekend. It will be interesting to see how she’s developed and gelled together with her new teammates over the summer. Hopefully, she will be able to find the back of the net at least once to set the standard for strikers in the WSL and to set the tone for Man City’s League campaign.

2 Players to look out for this weekend ahead Man City v Man Utd women derby

This weekend is the opening of the Women’s Super League and it’s a big one for the Football Manc Cave. Manchester City host Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

I will be there on Saturday giving updates, pictures and I’ll be producing a match report. I’m excited and so happy that this game is being played at the Etihad generating a bigger audience and it should be an exciting match. Man United was only promoted at the end of last season after only being formed for a year and Man City will be looking for a league win.

Before the weekend, I’ve picked out two players who fans should look out for. I’ve picked one from each of the Manchester teams but there’s no guarantee that either will play as of yet. This is a guess and if they don’t play on Saturday for whatever reason, they’ll definitely be ones to watch throughout the season.

Ellen White

A player who made a huge impact on Women’s football, especially England’s Lionesses over the summer. She joined Man City this summer and if she plays this weekend, it’ll be her first league game in a Man City shirt.

I can’t wait to see her in action and hope she manages to find the back of the net. A lot of the Man City players are in the England squad and I’ve said for a while now, that it’ll be great to see this City team develop together of the back of the World Cup.

Abbie McManus

As I was picking the stand out Manchester United player for you, I was tossing between Abbie McManus and Jackie Groenen. Both were summer signings and I was going to pick Groenen originally, but I think that Abbie McManus will cause more speculation, drama and talk because she signed for the Reds from Man City.

It’ll be interesting to see her play against her previous club and it will be interesting to see how Manchester United get on in this historic Women’s game.

Two players to look out for this season for Man City Women

Nick Cushing’s Man City Women’s side should be out on a mission to win the Women’s Super League this season. The Football Manc Cave have picked out two players that should play a pivotal role in fulfilling that dream.

If you follow the Women’s Super League, you’ll know that Man City normally go head to head with Arsenal for the top spot. I along with many Man City fans are hoping that the women part of the squad who featured for the Lionesses this summer will be hungry enough to take that title.

Out of all the teams in the league, Man City women will more than likely benefit the most when it comes to fans, as a large number of the team made history with the viewing figures reaching record-breaking numbers this summer. This is definitely going to bring in more fans and with that in mind, here are two players that will stand out for Man City this season…

Ellen White

A stand out player in France and an absolutely fantastic player in general. I can’t wait to see her in action at the Etihad on the opening game of the season, as I’m sure she will be a huge part of the Blues squad this season.

The striker has only signed for Man City this summer from Birmingham City. There’s no doubt in my mind that she will deliver for Nick Cushing’s and the team as she will blend right in with the girls who played in the World Cup. Her efforts will also see Man City either win the title or get extremely close to again.

Steph Houghton

The defender has captained Man City and the Lionesses for quite some time, only now she will gain a huge interest from fans as she played a massive part of the Lionesses World Cup campaign.

I think it’s safe to say that the hearts of the nation went out to her this summer as she had to make a statement following the semi-final loss. The nation was behind the whole team but Steph is a brilliant leader who strives for the best. This is why I think she will have an amazing season as she will be motivated to put the World Cup behind her and deliver for the Blues instead.

Man City Women: 2 strengths, 2 weakness that will see them win the league

Manchester City will hopefully win the Women’s Super League this season. Nick Cushings has been busy this transfer window which determines his hunger for the title.

The Blues managed a 2nd place finish last season behind Arsenal. A lot of his players have been out in France over the summer taking part in the World Cup and have now returned hopefully with the ambition do impress.

The Football Manc Cave looks at 2 strengths and 2 weaknesses that will have an impact on their 2019/20 campaign which will hopefully see them win the league.

Strength 1: Ellen White

I personally am so excited to see Ellen White in a Man City shirt this coming season. She was brilliant in the World Cup and even managed to bag third place in the golden boot race, which arguably she should have had a higher total after VAR ruled a few of her goals out.

She will more than likely be hungry to be successful as she goes up against her ex-club, Birmingham City. She will also be on the same team as her England teammates and be aiming to win something this season.

Strength 2: World Cup

All teams in men’s and women’s football have pre-season friendlies only Manchester City have practically had all summer to warm up. Keeper Karen Bardsley, defender Steph Houghton, midfielder Jill Scott and striker Ellen White are just a handful of the players who Phil Neville took to France this summer.

They all looked really promising as they played great football and only failed at the semi-final hurdle which again, was a great fight. As well as this giving a lot of Nick Cushing’s side the chance to bond, it also should give the players a need for a win. This hopefully will be the League.

Weakness 1: Arsenal

Last season saw Arsenal win the Super League with 54 points. Man City finished 2nd with 47 points. It’s clear to see that Arsenal will more than likely be Cushings’ biggest competition but hopefully, his team will be hungry and motivated enough to get a few more points this year in order to try and catch up with the Gunners. With Man United now in the same league, they’ll be hoping to take all 6 points possible from their rivals which could be crucial.

Weakness 2: World Cup

Now, this was obviously a factor I chose to go in the strengths of this article, and I do believe it will have some positive impact on the club going into their new campaign. However, I also think it will leave some of the players feeling deflated as they have suffered semi-final losses before and this time was no different.

Even though new fans and bigger crowds should convince the likes of Steph Houghton and Jill Scott that their World Cup efforts were widely appreciated. I can imagine that it’s still hard to get over losing to the USA.

Manchester City fans will have to hope Nick Cushings can convince his players to give it their all and push for the title.

Why you should be looking out for Man City Women, Man Utd Women and Salford City Lionesses next season

As the Women’s World Cup seemed to bring in more fans than ever. The Football Manc Cave have picked out some Greater Manchester-based clubs that you should keep an eye out for this coming season.

Did you know that there were around 10 players from Manchester United women and Manchester City women combined that appeared in the Women’s World Cup?

This proves that there’s a lot of talent that we are responsible for as Manchester football clubs. Now that international football is over, looking at league football is the next step and we have picked out some of the top picks to look out for…

Manchester City

An obvious choice, however, Nick Cushings’ side finished 2nd behind Arsenal, this year they will be out to try and win the league. They also have signed a few players over the summer and one of the biggest names Lionesses, Ellen White is one of those recruited.

They will have a great start to their campaign by hosting Manchester United and this game will be even bigger as it is being held at the Etihad Stadium. A lot of the England women players were also Man City players so if they don’t come back too deflated from the World Cup, they’ll surely come back hungry to win the league.

Manchester United

After only being formed around a year ago, Man United women’s team surprised fans as they gained immediate promotion to the Women’s Super League. Their season could go either way, however, fans hope they will see some fighting football and see Man United stay up in the highest league of English Women’s Football.

So again, their first game will be at the Etihad. They’ll feel a lot of pressure but it should make them a stronger team and give them an insight for the rest of the season.

Salford City Lionesses

If it’s exciting football with big scores that you are looking for then go and watch a Salford Lionesses’ game. They were champions of the Greater Manchester Women’s Football League. Just to give you an idea of their score lines, Sale Women list 7-0 to the Salford side. They also beat the Rochdale Women, 14-2.

There are more Women’s teams in the Greater Manchester area that should be mentioned, however, I feel these three teams will be the ones to impress this coming season.

Man City Women will be getting 2 things from their new signing

Birmingham City defender, Aofie Mannion has joined Manchester City Women on a 2-year deal. Today the Football Manc Cave looks at what she will bring to Nick Cushings’ side.

The 23-year-old is one of the most highly regarded young defenders. After 6 years at Birmingham, she has now joined Man City and will take the number 2 shirt.

A lot of the Man City women are just arriving back from France where they had semifinal heartache once again. Those girls will have to pick themselves up and get stuck in ahead of their opening fixture with Manchester United, which I am very excited to announce will be played at the Etihad Stadium.

Now what can Mannion bring to the strong Manchester side?

Aspiration

In her first interview as she signed for the club, she has talked about how she is excited to learn from Steph Houghton and Demi Stokes. This shows that she aspires to be in the same league as the Lionesses.

The defender has been a part of the England youth teams since she was under 15. So she will be hoping to also prove to Phil Neville that she’s worth it. In 2015, she was nominated for PFA player of the year and failed to win the award. However, she has been named in the Team Of The Year in the 2017/18 season and again in 2018/19. I think that proves her aspiration to grow as a player already so she can only get better.

Champions League

Man City women finished 2nd last year in the Women’s Super League and this means they will be playing in the Champions League. I presume that as well as the Women’s Super League, the team will want to do well in the competition as a lot of the girls will want to prove themselves after the World Cup.

Mannion spoke about this in her interview and stated how she had played in the Champions League once before with Birmingham City, but wanted another opportunity and now she’s got it. I hope she proves to be a crucial part of the team.

She will now be playing with some of the biggest names in women’s football, Steph Houghton, Demi Stokes, Karen Bardsley, Ellen White and Jill Scott. My guess is that she will be inspired by them and follow in their footsteps. She’ll be one to watch next season.
