Keith Hill has options as Bolton Wanderers look to topple Coventry City today

Bolton Wanderers football stadium

Bolton Wanderers will travel to Coventry City this weekend. The Trotters will be looking to make it three games unbeaten in the league against high flying Coventry.

Despite Bolton struggling at the bottom of League One, they managed a solid performance against Tranmere Rovers last weekend. Goals from Dennis Politic and Chris O’Grady gave the Wanderers a clean sheet and three points.

However, this week should be a tougher challenge when they travel to a fifth-placed Coventry City.

Coventry hasn’t lost a league game since December. Although, they have had an extra few games recently as they’ve been competing in the FA Cup.

With the Bolton squad feeling positive from the win over Tranmere, there’s a chance they may be able to take advantage of Coventry’s extra games…

Keith Hill has options

With that in mind, it’s worth thinking about the team selection that Keith Hill should pick this weekend.

New additions to Hill’s squad such as Ethan Hamilton and Kean Bryan got their debuts against Tranmere. He does have a few other options but should he use them?

There should be a range of players on the bench incase Bolton do struggle. However, this winning side had an outstanding performance last weekend that shouldn’t be changed.

Ex Nottingham Forest player Daryl Murphy is becoming a fan favourite at Bolton

Daryl Murphy

Daryl Murphy has become a fan favourite at the University of Bolton Stadium this season. He has produced most of their goals this season.

However, it was Chris O’Grady and 19-year-old Dennis Politic who were responsible for the goals against Tranmere.

Hopefully, all three players will be able to contribute towards a solid performance this weekend.

Bolton’s win over Fleetwood shows these 3 signs of change

Bolton Wanderers managed a 2-1 win over Fleetwood this weekend. This now takes them a step closer to getting out of the minus points they were on.

This was a great result for the Trotters this weekend as the win made it 3 in a row.

Keith Hill has really transformed this Bolton side. They started the season on -12 points. However, now they are on -2.

One more win and they will be out of the minus and can start to focus on getting out of the relegation zone.

Here’s 3 points that I have taken from the game that prove things have changed…

Goals

Chris O’Grady and Daryl Murphy were to thank for both Bolton goals. This already proves a big change in the squad.

When both players were introduced to the squad, they struggled to find the back of the net. However, in recent weeks, they have both improved massively.

First Half

The fact that both goals came from the first half paints a picture of strength. Not only did Bolton keep on top of their lead.

They also kept on top of the 3 points by not allowing Fleetwood to equalise. This is also an improvement.

Teamwork

The Bolton squad were kind of chucked together with little time to gel. Now that they have, they are performing collectively.

Stand out performers other than the goal scorers have been players like Jason Lowe and Josh Emmanuel. They are all playing for each other, the fans and to escape the bottom three.

The Bolton Wanderers team to face Man City u21’s should look like this

Bolton Wanderers will face Man City Under-21’s tonight in a Football League Trophy game. The Football Manc Cave have predicted how Keith Hill will line up his team.

While this clash will be a tough one for Bolton, it will also be a very exciting one for fans.

It will be interesting to see how Keith Hill uses his players in terms of the starting line-up.

It’s obvious that he will want his side to go out and try and win the game. However, this might give him a chance to play some younger players who have been benched recently.

This is the starting line-up that I have predicted for tonight…

Team

My guess is that Keith Hill will want to give the strongest possible starting 11 a chance.

Having options like Ali Crawford, Daryl Murphy and Joe Dodoo upfront will surely give a strong attacking side.

Plan B

Bolton had a situation at the beginning of the season in which they had to play young players in order to fulfill fixtures.

However, that is something that has benefited them now because they always have options on the bench.

If Keith Hill does go with a similar starting line-up to what I have picked, then he will have options like Sonny Graham and Adam Senior that choose from.

Bolton will be looking to build on their first win with this starting 11 against Lincoln

Bolton Wanderers Keith Hill

Keith Hill’s Bolton side will be looking for another win this weekend. They managed to pick up their first lot of 3 points against Bristol this week. Hopefully that will inspire some more points against Lincoln.

Bolton managed a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers this week. It was the first time the Wanderers have picked up 3 points this season.

It has taken them a step closer to escaping the minus points they’re in. Now they’ll be hoping to continue that process this weekend.

However, to make sure that standard of performance remains, this is the starting 11 that Keith Hill should put out…

Team

The starting line up should be exactly the same as earlier in the week…

When Keith Hill first took over, the problem seemed to be the defence. However, with new signings and intense training, he seems to have sorted that.

Now it’s the attack he’s focussed on. Luke Murphy and Daryl Murphy both got the goals against Bristol.

Hopefully they’ll feel motivated to get their names on the score sheet again this weekend.

Attack

In recent weeks, Keith Hill has been playing around with his formation and positioning.

Now I think he’s found the correct attacking line up. Instead of having Joe Dodoo on the bench, he should be in the starting line up helping put Murphy, O’Grady and Crawford.

’I’d forgot this feeling… GET IN!’ Bolton fans react to their first win of the season

Bolton Wanderers had their first League One win of the season last night against Bristol Rovers. The Football Manc Cave looks at your reactions.

Bolton lost 3-1 to Rochdale at the weekend after taking the lead. This came after Bolton fans were sure a win was on the cards.

Last night, Keith Hill’s side travelled to Bristol. After 16 minutes, Like Murphy put Bolton 1-0 up.

The Trotters managed to keep their lead until half time. Daryl Murphy then made it 2-0 in the second half and the Wanderers claimed all 3 points.

This is obviously a big moment for the League one side as it takes them to -5 points. It’s a step closer to escaping the minus points they are on.

Here’s your reactions…

Twitter reactions:

Two in, two out for Bolton Wanderers tonight against Bristol Rovers

Bolton Wanderers Keith Hill

Things looked as though they were changing at Bolton. Keith Hill’s side completely transformed. However, they lost 3-1 to Rochdale at the weekend in a poor performance.

The Trotters went 1-0 up and things looked okay. Things then changed pretty quickly as Rochdale broke down Bolton’s defence and won 3-1.

It’s pretty poor after taking the lead. However, it was clear to see which players made mistakes.

There wasn’t enough power behind the shots when chances were created. Then there were issues at the back too.

It’s brilliant how Keith Hill has transformed this team. However, I feel like the trial and error process is being played too much with some players and positioning.

That is why The Football Manc Cave have picked out two players who should be in the starting line up tonight. Then we’ve picked 2 who should be dropped.

Out: Adam Senior

Don’t get me wrong, I am a massive fan of the youth players at Bolton. They played really well in our toughest period as a club.

Senior is a great defender and proved that he is capable in the early stages of the season. However, if Keith Hill is going to use him, I don’t think he should start, he should just be brought on as a sub.

It was clear that he struggled in the second half against Rochdale and this is why he should be on the bench.

Out: Daryl Murphy

Murphy made his debut for Bolton a few weeks ago against Blackpool. He looked promising and like he had more to give.

However, some of the shots he managed to get against Rochdale were poor. There wasn’t enough of a connection to make an impact.

Every player has off days but Bolton now have other options up front. Murphy should be on the bench and come on if needed.

In: Joe Dodoo

A player who has made a lot of difference to the pace and up front. He actually set up Thibaud Verlinden’s goal at the weekend.

Rather than coming on as a sub, I think he should start the game. The impact he has on his team mates should be something that fans see from kick off, not just in the second half.

Chris O’Grady

Chris is another striker who is experienced. However, he’s not been given a chance yet at Bolton.

Keith Hill should give him some minutes instead of Daryl Murphy to see if there’s any difference. Even if he’s brought on in the second half, giving him some game time would be nice to see.

2 in-form players for Bolton Wanderers that need to play Rochdale this weekend

Bolton Wanderers face Rochdale this weekend in another attempt to earn some points. The Football Manc Cave are picking out two players who should get a game.

Bolton’s performances have improved massively since the start of the season. They face a 17th placed Rochdale.

In Bolton’s last League game, Liam Bridcutt was unfortunately injured. This is a big blow for the improving squad. However, goals are needed.

This is why I’ve picked out two players who could help with that this weekend…

Daryl Murphy

The striker made his Bolton debut against Blackpool. He looked strong and confident.

At the end of the game, he spoke about the fact that goals are needed and more chances need creating.

It’s clear that he has an eye for goal and is driven to find the target. He also worked well with Joe Dodoo once he entered the pitch. So it will be interesting to see Keith Hill’s team this weekend.

Sonny Graham

Sonny was a part of the youth squad that opened this season for Bolton.

He made an impression on fans then and has since made the bench most games. When Liam Bridcutt left the pitch last week, Graham replaced him.

Even though there was a bit of doubt to see if he would be able to work to the same standard, he definitely proved himself. It will be great to see him in action again against Rochdale.

Bolton Wanderers striker gives rallying call

Bolton Wanderers’ fight to stay in League One is well and truly on. One of their new additions, Daryl Murphy has said that he is ready to face the challenge head-on.

The Nottingham Post has explained how the striker is wanting to help Bolton climb out of the negative points they are currently on and start ‘the great escape.’

Murphy made his debut against Blackpool on Monday night and was happy with the football he saw. Despite not finding the back of the net himself, the 0-0 draw did show off how far Bolton have come.

The 36-year-old now wants to build off the great performances and turn them into wins. Murphy was out with a calf injury but that was a perfect opportunity for him to analyse how the side have been playing.

Now he knows exactly what he needs to do in order to help out the squad and Keith Hill.

Age

Most players at 36 would be judged. Some would say its too old. Murphy appreciates that but has said he has never had a problem with his fitness. He’s also never had serious injuries, just little knockbacks.

The forward now can’t wait to show what he’s capable of. After Monday night’s performance, I’m sure fans can’t either.

Relegation Battle

Bolton is obviously under a point deduction at the bottom of the league. Once they get out of that, they then have to get out of the relegation zone. Murphy is hoping for some wins to help with that plan.

He’s also said that it isn’t a nice situation to be in. However, he believes that the transformation Bolton has taken on is brilliant. Now it’s just a matter of winning and it’s something he’s ready to get stuck into.

Many positives out of Bolton’s draw with Blackpool

Bolton Wanderers Keith Hill

Bolton Wanderers faced Blackpool last night and managed a 0-0 draw. The Football Manc Cave weighs in.

For the first time in a long time, I feel confident as a Bolton fan. I feel like I can actually bare to watch a game. I’m not comparing this to the times we were in financial difficulties, I’m talking about the past 5 years or so. Bolton is actually an exciting team to watch again.

Last nights game was highly anticipated as Blackpool are in the top quarter of the League One. Bolton had already proved that they can match top teams performances following the point from Sunderland, so I was actually excited for this game. I must admit, I expected a few goals but I’m happy.

I predicted the Bolton line-up yesterday and I was only one player out, I guessed that Keith Hill would choose either Dennis Politic or Thibaud Verlinden, and not start them both but he did. I think Keith Hill has been quite anxious about playing both of them together due to any potential injuries to either, as they can interchange in the same position

Dominant in attack

Bolton actually dominated the game. We had chances, made attacks and tried to score. That’s all fans have wanted to see for a long time. Looking at Liam Bridcutt, Jason Lowe, Dennis Politic, Ali Crawford, Will Buckley, Thibaud Verlinden and Daryl Murphy and how they have clearly been working hard on how to play together is so refreshing.

Keith Hill has worked wonders with his team. The defence we now have is also so much better to watch. There were times last night when I worried but I clearly didn’t need to be. Joe Dodoo also made his Bolton debut last night when he got brought on in the second half. A few of his chances looked promising so he’s one to watch for us.

Defensive Bolton

Stating Yoan Zouma has worked a treat. He gave away a penalty against Sunderland and I have said all along that if he didn’t keep on getting starts then his confidence would get knocked. However, Hill has kept him in that starting line up and he did a great job last night.

Josh Emmanuel is also developing and adjusting very well. Jack Hobbs is proving himself to the fans as he is constantly getting into the league team of the week and, even bagged himself, man of the match, last night. The defence clearly had a great game because Remi Matthews had a relatively easy night which is something I like to see.

Injury to the Captain

Liam Bridcutt has been an absolute delight to watch. His skill and hard work on the ball have made it easier to watch us attack and push forward as a team.

Unfortunately last night, after a bit of a stumble, Blackpool forward, Armand Gnanduillet landed awkwardly on Bridcutt’s chest and for a moment it looked like he was going to be okay as he breathed through the pain and came back on to the pitch. However, he was then seen crouching and passed on the Captain’s armband to Lowe. He really didn’t want to come off, and no fan did either. It was revealed later on that he fractured his collar bone.

This is a huge blow because he could be out for up to 8 weeks. Just our luck.

Either way, I’m going to be gutted when some of these players have to return to their parent clubs. They’ve all been a huge credit to us and helped us in our journey to start to rebuild.

I love Keith Hill’s strategy’s, determination and mindset. He has said that we will beat the bookies and he’s already doing that, so I am excited about the future of our club.

One thing that did baffle me last night was when Dennis Politic got substituted. He looked to the fourth official to check that it was actually him being subbed and gave a bit of a smirk which to me said he didn’t agree with the situation either.

I do understand that he’s a younger player who’s fitness needs to be put first and I am behind Hill, although, last night, it looked to me like Politic had a lot more to give. I think he would have benefited more from taking Verlinden off who was already on a yellow card.

That aside, we got a point, against Blackpool. We beat the odds again and I couldn’t be happier!

Bolton should line up like this tonight as they search for their first win under Hill

Bolton Wanderers Keith Hill

Keith Hill’s Bolton side are about to face Blackpool tonight. The Football Manc Cave is looking at how the Trotters side should line up.

Before the kick-off at the University of Bolton Stadium tonight at 8 pm, we are looking at which players should get to start in trying to keep Keith Hill’s sides performance strong.

They have proven recently that they’re turning things around and just looking at the transformation in their score sheets each week confirms that. They recently managed a draw with Rochdale in the Football League Trophy, after a 1-1, they only lost on penalties.

Their 1-0 loss to Portsmouth was unfortunate as it only came in the second half after a great performance again. Another frustrating scoreline was when they drew 1-1 with Sunderland, as it looked like they would take all three points until they gave a penalty away. Bolton’s first win is on the cards.

Blackpool is currently 5th in the league and are on 19 points. It’s going to be a hard match for Bolton, however, Blackpool’s most recent form looks like this; 2-1 win against Lincoln, 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley and won 1-0 against Doncaster. Even though they’re on good form, they’re not scoring loads of goals each week and it’s only small score sheets like 1-0 wins.

This is something Bolton could take advantage of and try to get a point out of it. Here’s how I think Keith Hill should line his team up…

Remi Matthews obviously deserves his place in goal and that won’t change. The defence should line up with Josh Emmanuel on the right, Yoan Zouma and Jack Hobbs in the middle and Adam Chicksen on the left. These four seem to do well together.

Jack Hobbs has had a great season so far and even though Yoan Zouma gave away the penalty against Sunderland. I think starting him is the right thing to do, it will help with his confidence and keep him going mentally.

Bolton’s midfield

In midfield, Liam Bridcutt obviously should go out as Captain in the middle as he’s proving to be a great leader and motivation for the rest of the midfield. Jason Lowe should accompany him with Ali Crawford and Will Buckley and Thibaud Verlinden on each wing.

Keith Hill has been working on fitness within the squad and even though Verlinden is excellent on the ball, he was replaced against Rochdale in the 61st minute by Dennis Politic. This is another sensible decision as the pair are both great additions to the team and should both be given a chance but we don’t want either to get injured.

Bolton attack

Upfront should be Daryl Murphy. He’s a new signing who has been out but now is fit again. He does have some competition now though however as Bolton signed Joe Dodoo this week.

If Keith Hill sticks to his sensible style of planning, he will probably keep him on the bench for his first game with the Whites and only bring him on in the second half but we will see later tonight.
