Two players that impressed in Rochdale’s win over Bradford City

Rochdale travelled to Bradford City last night in the Leasing.com trophy. Even though they won 2-1, other results in their group have stopped Dale from progressing. However, there was a lot of talent in the squad.

Bradford went 1-0 up last night after 15 minutes. Rochdale then woke up and an equaliser came after 29 minutes.

In an eventful first half, Fabio Tavares also managed to score meaning that Rochdale would win 2-1. The side then managed to keep on top of their win throughout the second half.

Rochdale have been treating this competition as an experiment for their squad. They have been mixing youth team members with experienced players.

It was definitely the youngsters who came through last night. However, it is just unfortunate that Rochdale couldn’t progress to the next round.

They had a tough group to compete in. Bolton Wanderers and Man City Under 21’s have gone through in their group. Putting that aside, here are two stand out players from last night…

Joe Dunne

The 17-year-old deserves all the praise after last night’s performance. He made his debut in the squad and is a future star.

Dunne is a centre half who was put into the squad to see how he played. He definitely impressed with strong blocks, getting stuck into every ball and performing to a great standard.

This is great for the teenager who will now be monitored by Brian Barry-Murphy. He surely has made an impact on fans and management after last night.

Rochdale’s 18 y/o Fabio Tavares

The 18-year-old striker is a name that Rochdale fans will be familiar with. This is because he has already been featured in the first-team squad.

However, last night saw him shine due to being in a younger squad. He is another rising star in the Dale squad.

His goal in the 35th minute was the final goal of the game. This goes to show that not only can the Rochdale squad produce goals, they can also defend well too.

How is Sheffield’s Rhys Norrington-Davies getting on at Rochdale?

The left back joined Rochdale on loan this season. He has made a difference to Brian Barry-Murphy’s team.

Ryhs Norrington-Davies plays for Sheffield’s Under 23’s. He joined Rochdale on loan this season to help them out at the back.

His time in League One will give him some experience for when he makes a return to the Blades.

While he has been playing for Dale, he also received a international call up. He was called to play for Wales Under 21’s.

Current form

Norrington has played 15 games in League One for Rochdale so far. He has delievered 2 assists and 1 goal.

Pretty impressive for a left back. His style of play is to operate very wide to give him enough space to make decisions.

Cautions

However, he has picked up two yellow cards so far this season. As a defender, picking up cards is something that happens a lot.

Miss-timed tackles often happen with defenders, especially when they start to panic. He just needs to try and hold back to not get cautioned.

Rochdale need their defence to look like this tonight to stop Ipswich Town

Rochdale face Ipswich tonight at home. After a loss to Bristol Rovers last weekend, they’ll be looking for a win.

Brian Barry Murphy will be looking for his side to boince back tonight and react. Dale lost to Bristol, 2-1 at the weekend.

They went 2-0 down in the first half and Eoghan O’Connell even scored an own goal.

Fans were frustrated at half time but Dale’s second half performance definitely improved. Callum Camps managed to pull a goal back but it wasn’t enough.

With that in mind, this is how Rochdale’s defence should line up tonight if they want to stand a chance…

Left back: Rhys Norrington-Davies

The 20 year old has got big responsibilities for his age. However, he has adapted well.

This may be a tougher game for him as Ipswich are 2nd in League One. Rochdale are currently 14th.

Centre back: Paul McShane

The 33 year old only joined Rochdale a few weeks ago. However, he has made such a good impact at the back.

He is acting as a leader as his experience proves that he knows what he’s doing.

Centre back: Eoghan O’Connell

The 24 year old scored an own goal against Bristol last weekend. However, he shouldn’t be dropped tonight.

If Brian Barry-Murphy was to leave him out of the squad tonkght, it would completely knock his confidence.

Right back: Luke Matheson

The 17 year old didn’t play against Bristol so he could be featured tonight. He will be rested enough.

Jimmy Keohane played in this position last weekend. He is naturually a midfielder so he could be swapped tonight.

1 pro & 1 con to Rochdale’s loss to Bristol Rovers

Rochdale faced Bristol Rovers at home this weekend. Unfortunately, they lost 2-1. However, here is one positive that Dale can take from the game and one lesson.

Bristol managed to go 1-0 up after 8 minutes. Unfortunately, things got even worse for Brian Barry-Murphy’s side.

O’Connell scored an own goal soon after this to give Bristol a 2-0 lead.

However, Rochdale came out fighting in the second half. Fans were much more inspired by their teams performance and they even managed to pull one back.

Callum Camps managed to get Dale’s only goal of the game. Here’s one pro and one con they’ll take from the game…

Pro: Second half

At least the team and the management recognised that they needed to improve. Fans really weren’t happy until things changed.

Whatever was said in the changing rooms at half time inspired the Dale team to come out and try to turn things around. There were also a few questionable decisions by officials that effected Dale.

Con: Second Loss

This was Rochdale’s second loss in a row. They play a second placed Ipswich tomorrow.

It is unlikely that they will get some points from this game. That is why these last two performances should have been better. Own goals definitely don’t help the situation.

These 2 players need to start if Rochdale want to keep climbing the table

Rochdale’s form has changed recently with win after win. The Football Manc Cave have picked out two stand out players that are making the difference.

Rochdale’s form was up and down at the start of the season. Some performances were solid, some were poor.

However, Brian Barry-Murphy has got the team gelled together. They’re now scoring, winning and climbing League One.

In order to keep doing that, there are a couple of players who need to be in that starting line up from week to week…

Ian Henderson

Henderson has been on the score sheet nearly every week for Dale. He has been outstanding so far this season.

However, it isn’t just the goals that prove he’s on top of the game. When he is in the squad, he motivates the rest of the team to attack. He’s a much needed man on the squad.

Ollie Rathbone

Rathbone has been absolutely brilliant for Dale. He’s proving to be a fan favourite too.

Not only has he scored goals, he’s also a hard-working individual. Fans have picked up on the fact that he never stops running.

’Only 8 points off the top of the league.’ Rochdale fans react to their win over MK Dons

Rochdale managed another win last night against MK Dons. This has also made it 3 wins in 3 for Brian Barry-Murphy’s side.

Matt Done put Dale 1-0 up in under 10 minutes. However, this goal has caused some confusion because it was originally Callum Camps who hit the strike. Done seemed to take a touch on the line.

Either way, a goal is a goal. Ian Henderson then continued his goal-scoring run and made it 2-0 to Dale in the second half.

Ollie Rathbone also got man of the match. Fans praised his hard work and noticed that he never stops running.

This now takes Rochdale to 11th in League One on 19 points. Brian Barry-Murphy’s hard work with his squad is paying off.

Two in, two out for Rochdale tonight against MK Dons

Rochdale will be looking to make it three wins in three tonight as they face MK Dons. The Football Manc Cave are looking at 2 players who should be in the starring 11 to help take all three points. We are also picking 2 that should be dropped.

After Rochdale’s win at Bolton this weekend, Brian Barry-Murphy will be looking for another three points.

Unfortunately, each week there seems to be a new injury at the Dale. This week it’s goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez.

However, Brian Barry-Murphy’s team are still pulling out winning performances. Here’s 2 players who should be in that starting line up and 2 who should be on the bench…

In: Ollie Rathbone

He was in he squad that beat Bolton and he did get a start. However, the 23 year old should be rewarded with his efforts at the weekend by being started again.

The centre midfielder put Rochdale 2-1 up against Bolton. He also encouraged the third goal. His confidence will definitely improve if he starts again.

In: Fabio Tavares

The 18 year old came on in the second half of the Bolton game and he bagged the third goal. It was also his first senior goal.

If he doesn’t get a start tonight, Barry-Murphy should definitely bring him on again as a substitute. He could make the difference in getting Dale the 3 points.

Out: MJ Williams

This isn’t because the 23 year old had a bad game. However, he did get substituted in the second half against Bolton for Aaron Wilbraham.

I think it may be more tactical for Barry-Murphy to have him on the bench. He can play as centre back or a midfielder so wherever is lacking consistency, he can replace someone.

Out: Aaron Morley

Again, he hasn’t been playing poorly, but the 19 year old may benefit from a rest.

If he was on the bench, Brian Barry-Murphy could bring him on as reinforcement.

‘Just not god enough. When does the new season start?’ Bolton and Rochdale fans react

Bolton Wanderers have improved massively since Keith Hill took over. However, the hard work seemed to take a step back as they lost to Rochdale 3-1 this weekend. The Football Manc Cave looks at your reactions.

Bolton fans have been saying that their first win is ‘just around the corner.’ Most thought that 3 points might have come this weekend.

However, an eventful second half meant the Wanderers lost not only their lead on the game but also the match itself.

It stayed 0-0 until half time which looked promising for both teams. Joe Dodoo and Thibaud Verlinden teamed up for the Trotters opening goal of the game.

Callum Camps, Oliver Rathbone and Fabio Tavares then proved to be too much for Keith Hills side. All three found the back of the net.

Even though Bolton were disappointed, this is a great win for Dale. Here’s your reactions to the game…

2 in-form players for Rochdale that need to play Bolton this weekend

Brian Barry-Murphy’s side faces Bolton Wanderers this weekend. While both sides will be looking for a win, Rochdale will need these two players to help them succeed.

The interesting thing about this clash is that this is the third time they have met this season. However, this is the first League game.

The other two have been cup games. A young Bolton team faced Dale early on and lost 5-2. They then met again with a more solid and experienced team. It ended in a 1-1 draw with ex Bolton man Aaron Wilbraham scoring Dales equaliser.

Both sides will be scrapping for every decision, goals and points so it will be an interesting game. However, here’s two players Rochdale need in their squad…

Ian Henderson

It goes without saying that this man has been Rochdale’s saviour so far this season. He’s scored multiple goals in games recently and will be hungry for more.

Henderson scored both Dale goals against Accrington Stanley. He also did the same against AFC Wimbledon.

As a Bolton fan, I hope he doesn’t do it against us this weekend. Rochdale fans, on the other hand, will be praying that he does.

Aaron Wilbraham

Aaron is a Bolton Wanderers legend. He scored the goal that kept us up against Nottingham Forest.

However, the last time these two sides met, as mentioned before, he scored Dale’s equaliser.

This is why it could be tactical for BBM to start him. He’s been out for some time but now that he’s back and ready to score, he could contribute to taking all 3 points from Bolton.

Rochdale fans happy to get back to winning ways – ‘Anything Ronaldo can do, Hendo can do better’

This weekend saw Rochdale take a much needed 3 points from Accrington Stanley.

Rochdale haven’t been on form recently. Losses have taken them down League One instead of up. Fans have been getting frustrated and a win was needed.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s side was home to Accrington Stanley this week. Ian Henderson delighted fans with two goals in the 40th and 49th minute. Accrington Stanley did respond getting one back, however, it wasn’t enough.

All three points went to Dale which has taken them up to 17th in the league. Ian Henderson got himself a brilliant goal and his performance got him into League One Team Of The Week.

Now fans have an expectation and hope standards don’t slip.
