Spotlight on…Rochdale v Bury Fans

This week our Spotlight On is surrounding the M66 Derby between Rochdale and Bury in the EFL Trophy Group game.

After last season’s relegation for the Shakers, the fans will want to show their bitter rivals that they can still match them on the pitch.

TheFMC caught up with a fan from either side of the B6222 road, to reminisce and see what they predict for this local derby…

Name:   Andy Greenwood

Team:   Rochdale

I’ve Supported my team since…

I have been a Dale fan since the age of 12 – 22 years!!

What was your first Derby and memory?

My first derby was at Gigg Lane.

My Dad didn’t want me to go but I went anyway with my brother. We scored an early goal… Dave ‘the Bomber’ Lancaster and it was an overhead kick!!!

We were in the cemetery end, there were nettles growing at the back of the stand!!

The game ended 1-1.

What’re your thoughts on this season so far?

We have gained 7 points from a possible 9 away from home but lost all 3 home games.

Heavy defeats to Barnsley and Peterborough didn’t worry me, they are quality sides with much bigger budgets. The Walsall defeat was a case of us being too shy in front of goal despite having the lions share of possession.

Away from home, we have done really well. Turned Burton over and deserved the draw against Fleetwood. We beat Coventry on Saturday it was a classic smash and grab.

We’re underestimated by everyone in League 1 and that suits us just fine. I think we’re dark horses in this league.

We needed a striker – that was obvious but the addition of Zach Clough on loan until January was a fantastic piece of business by Keith Hill.

Predicted score?

An experimental side from Hilly will result in a score draw. Dale win on Pens!

Name:   Aaron Benson

Team:   Bury

I’ve Supported my team since…

The age of 6 (10 years)

What was your first Derby and memory?

Away at Rochdale 2015

A 1-0 win in the FA Cup 2nd round.

Poor game overall, Danny Rose scored an early header and the noise from the away end was electric

What’re your thoughts on this season so far?

Disappointing how we have closed out games poorly, and conceded late goals.

Need a good run of wins now as we’ve thrown away silly points

Predicted score?

2-1 to Rochdale
