Prediction: Lionesses should be flattered by the USA ahead of World Cup semi-final

The day has arrived, the Lionesses will face the USA in the Women’s World Cup Semi Final tonight at 8 pm.

If you follow women’s football, especially the World Cup then you will have been anticipating this game since England managed to qualify for the semi-final’s. If you’re a fan of women’s football or not, we are a nation of proud people when it comes to the representation of our Country. The Lionesses have broken TV records for themselves this campaign, and tonight will be their highest watched game yet with the whole nation behind them.

The USA is one of, if not the best women’s team and the Lionesses will have a tough game ahead of them. I’ve been very nervous about this match and after watching our 3-0 win over Norway I was a little concerned. At times, our defence was sloppy and relied on the captain, Steph Houghton to save the day. However, after watching USA’s World Cup campaign, if we play like that tonight, they will win as they find gaps in our back line.

However, my nerves were settled a little this week, after it was revealed that the USA sent spies into the training ground and our player hotel. They sent representatives to snoop around where our girls are staying and seemingly sent a man to watch Phil Neville’s side train. He had to be hunted by security as he took pictures and was seen talking on the phone. This suggests to me and ex England defender, Alex Scott that the America side is a lot more concerned about this meeting than anyone is led to believe.

With all of this in mind, I want us to win more than ever before. I hope tonight’s game proves that the reigning champions should have been more concerned about their own game than ours. The spy gate story should flatter England and make them think that their opponents are scared, this should make Neville’s team the desire to win more than they already had.

I really don’t want to guess at a score because it all depends on how England play. If they come out with the mindset of it being just another match and play to the same standard, I think they stand a chance. Furthermore, I presume we will see a change in the style of play and the team may be more defensive. I will say that USA will score tonight, 100%. England have done a great job at keeping clean sheets but tonight will be the night they concede and I think their striker, Rapinoe will be the one to do so.

The likely result will be a draw and it will go into extra time but I really Hope England can win 2-1. I predict goals will come from Ellen White and Lucy Bronze.
