Rochdale will be looking to bounce back, the following defeat to Sunderland at Spotland in midweek.
However, manager Brian Barry-Murphy will have taken plenty of positives out of a game that Rochdale dominated spells of. On another day, The Dale would’ve won the game comfortably. Aiden McGeady had that extra quality in the final third for Sunderland, which proved the difference.
So, here’s how I expect Rochdale to line-up against table-toppers Blackpool…
Robert Sanchez will continue in goal. I expect Jimmy Keohane to return in the right-back spot after 16-year-old Luke Matheson adopted the role in mid-week. Jim McNulty and Eoghan O’Connell have formed a solid partnership, and offer that leadership from the defence that you require. Rhys Norrington-Davies has arguably been Rochdale’s stand out player so far this season, alongside Callum Camps. The loanee from Sheffield United has already provided a goal and an assist this season.
Jimmy Ryan may be handed his first Rochdale start, alongside Welsh midfielder Jordan Williams. Matt Done should return to the starting line-up, and be looking to open up Blackpool with his pace and trickery from the right-wing. Youngster Oliver Rathbone scored in the 5-2 victory over Bolton Wanderers, I expect him to start out wide today and provide a threat.
Now to the in-form Camps, he’s had an excellent start to the season and may earn himself a call-up to the Northern Ireland squad. The 23-year-old has scored three goals already this campaign and netted a great goal against Sunderland on Tuesday. He will be hoping to provide service to striker Ian Henderson.
This promises to be a very good game. Blackpool is unbeaten and flying, while Rochdale has been playing very well too and should have more than the five points they have.
