Friday, Oldham Athletic have Dino Maamria in charge and no signings ahead of the new season.
Fast forward 72 hours. Dino Maamria has left, Harry Kewell has taken over and Oldham Athletic have signed Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Carl Piergianni and Sido Jombati alongside a great looking black and gold third kit.
The media man at Boundary park will not know what’s hit him.
Carl Piergianni impressed last season on loan from Salford City. Although the on-loan defender only made 11 appearances for the club, his leaderships skills and vital importance to the squad shone through.
Carl Piergianni said upon his arrival;
“It feels great, I’m delighted to be back. Obviously I had the experience of being here last season on loan and I thoroughly enjoyed my time, all be it, it was cut short.
“I always had the ambition of coming back to Boundary Park as I like to be fully committed to a club.
“I didn’t want to go back out on loan or to a different club, I wanted to come into Oldham and become a big part of the squad and pick up where I left off, with the support of the fans who have been amazing with me since I first arrived.”Via Oldham Athletic’s website
Another defender that has turned his loan into a permanent move is former Man Utd man Borthwick-Jackson. Who again impressed on loan in the second half of last season. CBJ said;
“I’m really pleased to be back at the club and can’t wait to get going again.
“I enjoyed my loan spell last season and I’m pleased I’ve got another opportunity now to build on that and show the fans more of what I can do.
“I’ll give 100% commitment again and I’m focused on getting regular game time as part of a strong defensive unit.”Via Oldham Athletic website’s
Oldham’s strong backline
In another move to strengthen the defence, Sido Jombati joins from newly-promoted Wycombe Wanderers. The 32-year-old can play in multiple positions across the backline and has a wealth of experience alongside three promotions to his name.
Jombati told the Oldham Athletic website;
“I’m really excited to have moved up here and joined this club. Oldham Athletic is still massive, it has a passionate fanbase and I’m ready to show everyone what I can do out on the pitch.
“I’m a player who can play across the back four and I will always help the team out in any way I can.
“I’ve loved the past few years at Wycombe, but now is the right time for me to have a brand new challenge and I believe my previous experiences have made me a stronger character.”Via Oldham Athletic website
