It looks like Manchester City are still not done with the summer transfer window. However, they may lose out on their latest player of interest.
According to The Scotsman, Jose Cifuentes has gained interest from Celtic as well as Pep Guardiola’s side. Now it’s being reported that Celtic are the favourites to win the South American’s signature.
There is an ongoing issue with the player and that is that he is not yet a full time international, which means Man City would struggle to obtain a work permit for the 20-year-old. This is why Manchester City are least likely to sign him with how the Scottish rules on permits being more relaxed.
Whoever he decides to make a move to will be getting a decent player. Cifuentes was part of Ecuador Under 20’s squad that saw them finish third in the Under 20’s World Cup. It is believed that his performance throughout this competition is what drew attention from the likes of Celtic and City, as well as German clubs.
Jose to fill the void?
Known as a defensive midfielder, he is also comfortable at going for the goal which is another reason why he’s gained interest. Hopefully, Man City will be able to get a hold of him as they need someone to fill in Vincent Kompany’s shoes. Jose Cifuentes is only 20 years old which won’t make him a leader right now, but I think Guardiola’s side needs a defensive player who isn’t scared to try his luck at a goal every now and again.
My guess is that a lot of fans may never have heard of him. Or if they have, maybe never seen him in action. In the Under 21’s World Cup that I mentioned previously, he once got the ‘goal of the day’ which you can see here. It’s impressive, I’ll warn you. Imagine having that kind of power at that age on your side. Hopefully, there will be a way around this permit issue for Man City.
