Man City Looking To Further Strengthen Their Defence

With club captain, Vincent Kompany, taking the player-manager role on at Anderlecht, City are on the lookout for a replacement.

It has also been reported that Atlético Madrid are looking into Nicolas Otamendi, which would mean another defender would need to be recruited by the blues.

Pep Guardiola has spent big in the past in his defence, however, transfer links again this season seem to be defender heavy. With Pep looking for a hat trick of Premier League titles, something only their local rivals Man Utd have done, he knows the key to titles is a solid foundation.

We take a look at two defenders being linked with a move to the Etihad…

Harry Maguire

The 26-year-old defender looks to be in demand once again as the transfer window takes off. It has been reported that Maguire has had interest from Man United as well, but the Leicester City player has previously said that he would like to join a club that can give him more, such as Champions League fixtures. This would make him the perfect fit for Pep’s team next year.

Joao Cancelo

City are also said to be in competition with Juventus over a transfer for Cancelo. There’s supposedly a £50 million transfer fee for the defender but, Pep and his team are willing to sell Danilo in order to buy the right back so they can have a solid back four next season.
