There has been huge speculation this transfer window about Juventus player, Joao Cancelo and his future at possibly Man City.
Man City is one of the top names that have been listed as interested in the full back. Now they’ve got more competition as Barcelona have entered the race in trying to sign the 25-year-old.
Pep Guardiola’s side has been looking to strengthen their defensive back line all summer now that captain, Kompany has left the club. I think it’s safe to say that after the blues managed to sign Rodri and Angelino, getting Cancelo would have ended City’s transfer business for the summer.
Rumour has it that Barcelona defender, Nelson Semedo could be leaving the club. Which would put the Spanish side in the same boat as Man City in terms of needing to complete the signing of a replacement. The opening bid for Cancelo is yet to be placed, and there’s a list of teams including Bayern Munich who are interested.
In my opinion, it’s clear that the other options Guardiola has like Walker and Danilo aren’t consistent enough for the Man City manager. That’s why he’s trying to make sure he’s got strong enough reinforcements. I think Cancelo is being clever about his own future here, by giving as many teams as possible the chance to monitor him. He can then weigh up his own options in terms of where he wants to go.
If he does choose Man City, I hope he’s consistent and reliable enough and can live up to the Manchester side and fans expectations. Hopefully with the right preseason training, if he does sign, he’ll make the difference that Pep is clearly looking for.
