Lowdown: Who is Man City’s 22 y/o Spanish winger target
We’re extremely close to the start of the football season and teams are putting final touches on training, plans and transfers. Today The Football Manc Cave are looking at Man City’s new rumoured player of interest.
According to en.as.com, Man City are willing to pay Mikel Oyarzabal’s release clause for him to move to the Manchester side. Pep Guardiola has had to consider that Leroy Sané is still linked with Bayern Munich so he may need a replacement. Real Sociedad are reluctant to let their striker leave, however, Manchester City has contacted the player’s representatives to let them know of their intentions to activate his £75 million release clause.
So Who Is He?
Oyarzabal is 22 years old and he shone during Spain’s Under 21 success this summer. He is well respected by his club and the fans of Real Sociedad, as he took over the title of the ‘heart of the club’ from Xabi Prieto. This is one main factor to why the club is trying their best to keep their player.
The winger also came through the youth ranks at Real Sociedad and Eibar. As well as his success with league football, he’s also appeared for Spain’s Under 18’s, 19’s, 21’s and their senior squad. Since signing for Real Sociedad professionally in 2015, he has appeared 132 times and managed to bag 33 goals.
His current contract with Sociedad currently runs to 2024. So it would be down to the player to make a decision on whether he wants Premier League football and to be a part of Pep Guardiola’s side. Our guess is that the players’ representatives will be asked to do everything they can, to try and keep him at his current club.
Fans should also consider the fact that Athletic Bilbao cane knocking for the striker previously and Real Sociedad rejected their advances. This was at a time when Oyarzabal’s release clause at a much smaller fee. However, it’s not like Man City can’t afford the prices asked, and the Blues are a big appeal to players who want to boost their career even further so we will have to wait for the player’s decision.
Leroy Sané is also holding up this decision as Pep Guardiola will have to wait on his future, as that will determine whether he does need a replacement or not.
