The Manchester United Jadon Sancho saga looks set to run for some more time yet.
Man United have been notorious over the last few seasons for getting their business done at the last minute. Again, if they are to be successful in the purchase of Borussia Dortmund’s right-winger it looks likely to go down to the wire again.
Fans will be anxious not to see a repeat of last year’s Harry Maguire purchase which saw the reds haggle on price only to pay a record transfer fee of £80 million just before the season started.
The latest rumours coming out of Germany are stating that Dortmund are lining up former United player Memphis Depay as a replacement for Sancho. Depay is currently playing for Olympique Lyon and after they finished in 7th place in Ligue 1, stories state that he is looking to leave in search of European football.
Depay’s tough season
The 26-year-old Dutch winger has had a tough season. Depay has been blighted by injuries as he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in Lyon’s game against Rennes in December which ruled him out for the season. He had also missed games earlier in the season due to a thigh issue but is now back in training.
The winger, however, did manage to score 9 league goals in 13 appearances. As well as 5 goals in 5 appearances in the Champions League and has looked like the player that Man United thought that they had purchased.
The 26-year-old moved to Old Trafford in 2015 and spent two unsuccessful years at the club scoring only two premier league goals. Burdened with the famous number 7 shirt, it would be ironic if he moved to Germany, which, in turn, would help to secure Man United’s purchase of the next possible number 7 Sancho.
