Man City is known for having a fast-moving development squad with a lot of talent. The Football Manc Cave are picking out two of those who Pep Guardiola should be giving more of a chance to.
In Man City’s Carabao Cup tie against Preston, fans expected to see a few youngsters in action. This was due to the game being classed as easier than a Premier League tie.
This was a perfect opportunity to rest some of the usual starting eleven and give some others a chance to shine. That’s exactly what happened and a couple stood out.
Phil Foden is a name that’s a topic of conversation in the footballing world at the moment. Fans think he deserves more of a chance now that he’s fit. He’s supposed to be one of the best players Pep Guardiola has ever seen but if this is the case, why is he only being used as a Cup player?
Maybe because Guardiola wants to ease him into the game at his young age. However, despite the excitement around him, he didn’t impress as much as fans would have hoped.
Here are two youngsters that did.
The 17-year-old has made his impression on fans in the youth squads and in England youth teams. However, his dream came true when his name was in the starting line up against Preston.
The centre back really impressed and has got fans calling for his name to be in the line up more often. He has even spoken on the matter himself. He said that he ‘hopes to stay in the manager’s mind’ after his performances.
The 18-year-old is another who got a chance to make his debut and also got fans talking. Garcia and Bellis are now looking like they could form the perfect centre back pairing for the future at the Etihad.
There’s a long way to go to get them at the standard Pep will want them at. However, they have both proven that they are worth taking a chance on, willing to work hard and that they compliment each other on the field.
The Manchester Evening News posted their player ratings after the match and both of the youngsters came out with 8’s. These were the two highest scores given out to any of the Man City players by the news website.
It’s a very promising start for the pair and it looks like they will both go far. As for Phil Foden, the subject now has risen to whether it would be sensible for Guardiola to send him out on loan so he can get regular playing time.
Do you agree?
