FC United welcome Nuneaton Borough to Broadhurst Park this Saturday in the National League North. This will be the Red’s second home fixture within a week as they faced York City on Tuesday night which resulted in a 3-3.
Nuneaton currently sit rock bottom of the table with just 16 points from their 35 matches this season and are currently 20 points from safety. This season has been one that the Boro will want to forget, as there has been many problems the club has faced off the football pitch. The Warwickshire side racked themselves a debt of £32,000 that many believed was too much to pay back and, after their chairman quit in mid February the club was very much in danger of going bust.
The last time these two clubs met was Saturday 29th September which looked to be resulting in a 0-0 draw, however, five minutes from time Enoch Andoh scored a scrappy goal which gave the Boro all three points and put United rock bottom of the table. Therefore, six months on, FC will be hoping to be the ones taking all three points this time around as they are now currently five points adrift of safety.
The Red’s ended up throwing away a 3-1 lead on Tuesday night which resulted in a 3-3 draw against a 10 man York City. To make matters worse, Guiseley also beat Curzon Ashton on that night which extended their lead above FC in the table.
This weekend’s match is a must win for Nuneaton as anything other than a victory will delay the almost inevitable relegation. However, the three points are also crucial for the men in red, as they could potentially give them hope that they will continue to play their football at this level for another season.
United go into this game with the better form with Nuneaton losing their last 6 matches. However, with both teams fighting for the points Saturday’s match is set up to be a thrilling encounter and, definitely not one to be missed. With only six matches left in the Red Rebel’s current campaign, it is all to play for!
