Ramsbottom United are hoping to go one better than last season’s second-placed finish, albeit due to COVID. The Rams have retained three key players this week as they look to get into The Northern Premier League.
Having retained Richie Baker, Jamie Rother and Captain Tom Kennedy for another season, it shows an intent ahead of the new season starting.
We caught up with Club Captain Tom Kennedy this week. He expressed his excitement to be at Ramsbottom for another season after a fantastic campaign last year.
When question about the transfer activity at the Rams, he said;
‘Due to the nature of Non-League football and the performance of the team as a whole last season, the Rams have lost a lot of talent and the nucleus of the team in an attacking sense with the turnaround of players.’
Ramsbottom player retention
However, he mentioned that the retention of a good core with Ritchie Baker and Jamie Rother will be a great stepping stone towards recruitment this season. With hopefully, the Rams looking to recruit more of the same character on and off the pitch.
We asked Tom about his aims for this season as club Captain;
‘We’re focused to achieve at least the same as last season, while we are always looking to be in the top echelons of the Northern Premier League Division One North West.
Albeit it is too early to say, a top-two finish as got to be the aim, as we look to get the exciting times back at Ramsbottom.’
In personal terms, the 35-year-old is eager to get back to playing again as he enters the twilight of his career, we pushed him on his own targets;
‘Personally, I’m looking to beat my scoring and assists tally of last season. At my age, I’m looking to enjoy my football as it could probably be my last year, potentially last two years depending on how this season goes.
It’s all about the people I’m surrounded with and my enjoyment. I’ve loved it at Rammy the last two year and football is all about enjoyment for me’
