The rise of Dean Henderson of the past few seasons has started Man Utd fans questioning who should be the Red Devils number one next season.
Having arrived at the Manchester United academy aged 14 from Carlisle, many touted Henderson as a great prospect within the club. Aged 18 Henderson signed his first professional contract and was loaned out to fellow Greater Manchester side Stockport County.
Henderson went on to play nine games at Edgeley Park, keeping three clean sheets before moving onto Grimsby Town. The Cumbrian stopper made his way from back up ‘keeper to the first choice in his 7/8 months. Keeping 4 cleans sheets in his seven games, again proving what a talent he is.
Impact loan at Shrewsbury Town
It wasn’t until his season-long loan to Shrewsbury Town, that his stock really started to rise. Playing 38 games, and reaching Wembley twice albeit being on the wrong side of the result on both occasions.
Henderson was the only one of three players outside of Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic to be named in the League Two team of the season. This prompted Sheffield United to secure another season-long loan for the player the following season in the Championship.
Promotion to the Premier League
Following signing a two-year extension at Old Trafford, Henderson went on to help the Blades secure promotion. Winning the golden glove in the process alongside the young player of the season award.
De Gea has long been Man United’s number one since his arrival in 2011, even the experienced Argentine number one Sergio Romero has not been able to displace the Spaniard.
With Ole Solskjaer looking to have an embarrassment of goalkeepers at his fingertips, it looks like he certainly has some difficult decisions ahead.
Man Utd fans who would you want in between the sticks next season?
