Wigan Athletic have confirmed that Joe Gelhardt has completed a move to newly-promoted Premier League side Leeds United for an undisclosed fee.
The 18-year-old has signed a four-year deal with Leeds. He made 19 appearances for the Latics this season, his first goal for the club was a dramatic late equaliser at Hull City back in September 2019.
The forward graduated through their academy, having been with the club since the age of 10.
Gelhardt has been capped at England Under 16, 17 and 18 level and featured in the European Championship in 2019 for the Under 17’s.
He becomes the second youngster to leave the club and join a Premier League outfit following Wigan’s point’s deduction, and subsequent relegation to League One.
Fans were left frustrated with the situation the club finds itself in, as another promising player for the future departs the club.
