As if the Manchester City squad doesn’t already have enough talent in their ranks, they could see themselves land a further two world-class players.
Man City fell quite short last season, losing out on the Premier League trophy to Liverpool by a massive 18 points and being knocked out of the Champions League by underdogs Lyon.
Therefore there is an argument to be made that the squad is in need of either further support from quality players or a new dynamic. It is hard to imagine that there are faults in Guardiola’s managing, at least faults that can’t be fixed.
City fans could see their squad with the following lineup next season, and here’s what the new additions would bring to the squad…
Gabriel Jesus is being entrusted more and more to provide for the Blues, more so when having a partner up top, currently that of Sergio Aguero. It is difficult to imagine Aguero or Messi happily sitting on the bench, meaning only one of the two Argentinians are likely to be at the club at any one time.
With Messi’s playing style, he will be adding many, many goals to the goal tally, particularly in Europe. But will also provide Jesus with chance after chance to build up his goal converting experience. Elevating him to a higher level that could see him become City’s number one striker for the next 10 years.
Man City and Pep Guardiola have little issue scoring goals, so the addition of Lionel Messi is just adding more diamonds to the crown.
However, with the inconsistencies in performance and fitness from the likes of John Stones, Otamendi and Laporte, and the ageing of Kyle Walker and Fernandinho. Bringing in a consistently profound rock in the defence is precisely what Man City needed in the nine games they lost last season, compared to Liverpool’s three.
Man City and Man United were in the race for both Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly. As the Maguire and Old Trafford ship has already sailed, the door is open to City to acquire the world-known Kalidou Koulibaly.
