After a 14th place finish in League Two for Oldham Athletic last season and now a new manager. Football Manc Cave has had a look at players the Latics could sign and sell.
Laurent Banide has now taken over as manager of Oldham Athletic and fans are finding it hard to be optimistic, as there’s not been a lot of transfer news for the club.
This week, the team have been in Morocco completing team building exercises and beach training ahead of a preseason friendly. Fans have been looking at pictures and begging the club to announce any form of signing before the start of the season.
I have picked out a player that the Latics could buy, sell and could get on loan…
Loan – Zach Clough
The 24-year-old has been a name who’s been up in the air this transfer window. He left Bolton Wanderers in 2017 for Nottingham Forest and a year later he was loaned back to the Trotters. Since then he’s had loan spells at Rochdale but not managed many appearances, goals or a chance in the Forest squad.
I’ve seen him play for Bolton many times and he’s someone I rate, I think he’d be a great addition to Oldham. However, his fee could be a risk and some fans are sceptical about whether he’s consistent. This is why I think he could just join the club on a loan spell for the time being.
Buy – Chris Eagles
Another player that I got to see play at Bolton. He’s not had a team that he’s found his feet at in a while. Although, the midfielder has been around a lot and could be beneficial to the League Two side. The 33-year-old has been spotted in Morocco training with the squad as it is believed he is on trial with the club. Hopefully, he will prove to be a potential signing for the club as he tries to impress while on trial.
Sell – Urko Vera
It has been announced that Vera has signed a new one year contract with Oldham. Don’t get me wrong, I know that he’s only just signed and fans are praying for their club to announce transfer news but this isn’t exactly what they wanted. The 32-year-old has a list longer than my arm of his previous clubs. Now fans are not happy because they don’t think he was worth the signing. He may be worth selling again once his contract is up as fans are mocking him already asking if the camels on the Morocco beach will be able to score more goals than him.
