Liverpool are not ready to let the title slip for a second time against Man City

You would think that Liverpool would be celebrating already with their lead on Man City but according to Georginio Wijnaldum, they’re not letting it get to them just yet.

Liverpool managed a 2-1 win over Leicester with a last-minute penalty on Saturday. This made it 8 out of 8 wins for the reds and they could sit back and relax to watch their biggest competition, Man City, the next day. Pep Guardiola’s side ended up losing 2-0 unexpectedly to Wolves, which made Liverpool take the lead at the top of the table by 8 points.

A lot of fans, pundits and football personalities have all said that at this stage, it looks like Liverpool are running away with the league. Even Gary Neville has said that it is now Liverpool’s title to lose.

Liverpool are not getting ahead of themselves

However, Georginio has spoken and said that the squad aren’t letting these statements get to them too much. He’s said that Liverpool players are firmly focussed on themselves. He’s also added that the Anfield dressing room will not be lured into a way of thinking that they’ve already won the league.

Wijnaldum has also said that the squad doesn’t think they’re already champions and that he’s sure Klopp will keep the team settled. In return, he’s assured everyone that the reds will give 100% every week.

The biggest tactical statement he made is that the Liverpool squad must focus on themselves and no one else because they can’t control other teams performances. It would also be very wrong for them to just think they’re going to win the Premier League.

Treating every game exactly the same as you need to go out and get the job done, is exactly the right attitude to have and it seems like Liverpool have things completely under control. Unlike City who seems to be cracking under the pressure. The rest of the Premier League season will be interesting for sure.
