Man Utd need Solskjaer to achieve these 2 things this season

For long-term supporters of the Red Devils, not aiming for a Premier League title is a totally foreign concept. However, in current circumstances, projections for this season are significantly lower…

After an unbeaten pre-season and a 4-0 victory on the opening day of the Premier League season against Chelsea, many thought that Man Utd was back on the up.

However, it only took two or three games to see that all of the foreseeable worries fans had in summer were starting to materialise. In particular, Man Utd’s shambolic midfield, inexperienced attackers and questionable line ups and substitutions from their inexperienced manager.

Unless Man Utd swap squads with Man City, they will get nowhere near a title this season. And unless Man Utd swap squads with Leicester City, they probably won’t reach the top six either.

With this in mind, what targets must Solskjaer achieve this season to prove to the irate fans that the club is back on the up…

Utilising the youth

Solskjaer has promised to involve the fantastic Man Utd youth in his bid to find success with the Reds. So far, aside from the sporadic, last-ditched attempt to win games by bringing on Mason Greenwood, we haven’t really seen this.

By replacing under-performing players such as Jesse Lingard with Angel Gomes, Nemanja Matic with James Garner, Ashley Young with Brandon Williams, Solskjaer will have an excuse for not finishing in the top four, as well as pleasing fans with a ruthless rebuild.

A big signing

Solskjaer needs to prove himself worthy of backing from the board. Harry Maguire doesn’t really count, as his fee was recouped by the sale of Romelu Lukaku.

It is important for the fans and the team that Solskjaer receive the appropriate support from the ones who sign the cheques.

This will improve the starting eleven, the fan’s trust and Solskjaer’s determination to impress a board that believe in his philosophies.
