Two reasons why Man Utd should make Juventus winger signing essential in January
According to reports, Man Utd pursued Douglas Costa from Juventus, having their offer refused. However, there are two very important reasons to go all out with an offer that can’t be refused…
28-year-old Brazilian winger Douglas Costa has been linked with Man Utd over recent transfer windows. Understandably, because he is a fantastic talent that would fit right into Man Utd’s formula under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
With just less than 3 years left on Costa’s contract at Juventus, the Brazilian could be looking at a big-money move to guarantee himself first-team football. Therefore, a move to Man Utd would benefit the player himself. But more importantly, would benefit Man Utd for these two reasons…
The perfect winger
Man Utd has Dan James and Marcus Rashford who both favour the left-hand side. James, in particular, has proved how dangerous he can be by cutting inside and getting shots off.
Douglas Costa would act as a similar style player on the opposite flank. The left-footer has played the majority of his career off the right-hand side and would opt to cut inside and shoot or assist a teammate inside the box. Which is much alike to Man Utd’s current style more than whipping a ball into the box like an old-fashioned winger would.
Costa would be a useful asset to the squad right now. As Marcus Rashford performs slightly below par and Daniel James a stand-out target for defenders to clatter, having the option to replace them or rotate them with a player like Costa would nullify Man Utd’s lack of firepower in wide areas. As the Reds often have to play Mata or Pereira in that position despite their favoured areas being central.
