2 Man City Women that will be key to causing Lugano Women problems

The Football Manc Cave are reflecting on Man City women’s performance on Saturday and which two players will have the biggest effect in their Champions League clash with Lugano.

The Women’s season has started and games are coming in thick and fast. Now that the Women’s Super League has kicked off, it’s time for the Champions League. Man City will take on the Swiss side, Lugano on Thursday the 12th of September. The return leg will be played on Wednesday the 25th of September.

In 2017 and 2018 Man City have gone on to get to the Semi-Final only to be knocked out to Lyon. They also suffered a heartbreaking blow in the round of 32 last season to Atletico Madrid. This will be the start of City’s campaign to try and get to the final.

In order to succeed, they’ll have to start off better than they did against Man United this weekend. A brilliant save in the first half kept them in the game and a screamer of a goal let them take away three points. However, Nick Cushing’s side will have to perform better as a whole. Which 2 players will stand out and help Man City win their first clash with Lugano?

Ellie Roebuck

I was surprised to see the 19-year-old perform so well on Saturday. For me, she was the standout player for the blues. Man City had a shaky start that allowed Man United to have a few chances. If it wasn’t for Roebuck, the score sheet could have been very different, especially at half time after this amazing save…

And another angle because it was that good…

Lugano will have to produce something special to get past her.

Caroline Weir

Yes, the only goal scorer in the Manchester Derby and what a goal it was.

This goal isn’t the only reason why I’m picking her. She’s admitted herself that finding the back of the net like that was a ‘bit of magic.’ She found some space and went for it. The reason why she will cause problems for Lugano is because of the space she covers and manages to find. If you don’t believe me, take a look at this…

Good luck to the girls!
