Man Utd join Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal in the race for 81m rated Bundesliga 19y/o
Manchester United fans were crying out for a midfielder in the summer transfer window. But the may have to wait until January. However, with the class and quality that Kai Havertz of Bundelsiga’s Bayer Leverkusen, he is well worth the wait.
In recent games for Man Utd, Paul Pogba has been seen in a much deeper role than expected. This has massively effected the side’s final third quality but increased Pogba’s chances of player killer long balls.
Should Pogba remain in this position, it leaves a missing link between the midfield and attack. A link that is crippling the side’s ability to pass their way through a team. It also affects the way the Reds attempt to speedily transition defence into the attack on counters, as so many fizzles out due to a lack of quality in moving the ball.
So, who can fix this issue in the Man Utd squad?
Havertz has been rumoured by German outlets to be a January target for Man Utd. The 20-year-old comfortably plays across the attack, having 17 goals and 4 assists in the Bundesliga last season. The 6 foot 1 German, however, shines in the attacking midfield role. His ability to control the tempo of the game was seen in Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-2 victory on the opening day of Germany’s top tier season, not only scoring a goal but also playing a huge role in the 74% possession the side had.
By slotting him into the position that Man Utd need filling so desperate, the Reds would have more supply for Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. On top of that, they would have a tall, confident and gifted midfielder who can score goals.
Man Utd would have the options of Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Fred as defensive midfielders. Whilst having the options of Kai Havertz, Angel Gomes, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata as the attacking midfield play-makers.
The ‘Man Utd midfield crisis’ would not only be over, but they would have one of the strongest midfield selections in English football.
