Forget Moore: Here’s 2 players that can fill in for Wigan Athletic striker
Wigan Athletic was dealt a double blow on Tuesday night. Another away defeat and another injury to a key player, as Kieffer Moore had to leave the field with a calf injury.
Paul Cook was searching for a striker all summer, after failing with moves for Sam Gallagher and Jordan Hugill, Latics turned their attentions to Moore, who signed in the final week of the transfer window.
The striker was Latics’ best player on Saturday vs Leeds, a real nuisance for any defence, works hard, just needs a goal or two to gain some confidence. It was more of the same at Boro, Moore causing problems but ultimately being too isolated to really impact the game.
So, another injury to join Anthony Pilkington, Josh Windass and Joe Garner. We don’t have any luck whatsoever when it comes to injuries, but who is ready to fill his void…
Callum Lang is the obvious choice, given he’s the only fit striker at the club currently. The youngster has waited patiently for his chance in a Latics shirt, we’ve not scored in four matches, so the expectations can’t be set too high. Lang is a natural finisher, he’s proved that in his loan spells at Oldham. With Joe Garner and Josh Windass both injured, Lang is the natural replacement.
Jamal Lowe played well on the wing vs Middlesbrough. He’s played through the middle a few times in his career and scored 17 goals last season for Portsmouth. Perhaps Cook will give him a chance to spearhead the attack, with Michael Jacobs and Gavin Massey playing either side of him.
Whoever plays, can we just score a goal vs QPR on Saturday, please?
