What Will Man United Women Fans Expect From Ökvist?
Man United women’s team have announced the signing of the Swedish defender, Lotta Ökvist. The Football Manc Cave is looking at what she will bring to the side.
The 22-year-old defender spent the 2018/19 season with the Swedish side, Hammarby IF and she represents Sweden at the under 23 levels.
This recruitment comes after Alex Greenwood has left the Red Devil’s to join England teammates, Lucy Bronze and Nikita Parris at Lyon. A stronger defence needed to be constructed in order for Man United to have a chance in the Women’s Super League. What will Ökvist bring to the Reds?
Adapts to Change
Ökvist has had spells in the USA and Sweden before moving to the UK. She signed for the Boston Breakers in 2018, but they folded before the start of the season so she had to cope with the shift to joining Houston Dash. Two weeks later, she was traded to Orlando Pride. She never appeared in a game for them and was released yet again. She then joined Hammarby and had no problems at all fitting in as she started every game and scored 3 goals in 24 appearances. The change to the Super League shouldn’t be a problem for her.
Lotta Ökvist spoke on her new chapter and said that one of the things that appealed to her most about joining Manchester United was Casey Stoney. She wants to be with Stoney as she cares for her players, helps them to develop and brings out the best in them. Casey Stoney also believes in her, which means that this signing should work out from both player and management perspective. The next steps will just be training and getting her blended in with the rest of the defence before the season starts.
