2 Man City youngsters who could have a major impact on the club’s 19/20 season
Pep Guardiola has a wealth of talent in the Manchester City dressing room, but will it be the young stars who make an impact on their new season?
Manchester City are aiming for their third consecutive Premier League title, as well as demonstrate what kind of effect they can have in the Champions League.
Much unlike City, transfer rumours have been few and far between this summer. This could mean Pep Guardiola is confident that his current squad, can fight to end of each competition in the upcoming 2019/20 season.
These are two promising young blues who could feature heavily in Guardiola’s hunt for ultimate glory, in what could potentially be his last season at the helm of Manchester City.
In the 2018/19 season, the 19-year-old midfielder Phil Foden featured in 13 Premier League Matches and appeared in 4 Champions League matches, bagging himself a goal in each competition.
His ability to keep up with the squad, and handle the responsibilities laid upon him by the manager shows that this young star is more than capable of maintaining a first-team spot for the champions of England.
His ability to have such a talent in the rotation of the squad will likely extend their Champions League run in. Furthering hopes of becoming the champions of Europe for the first time in the clubs history.
City acquired the 18-year-old defensive midfielder in January of 2018 from Paris Saint-Germain. Apparently, Gomes has been nicknamed ‘N’golo Kante’ by his peers due to the similarities of his play style to his French counterpart.
Over recent years, the central-defensive midfield position has been maintained by the likes of Yaya Toure and most recently, the 34-year-old Fernandinho. Much like with Phil Foden, Guardiola’s ability to rotate these positions with incredibly talented youth will preserve the stamina of the squad, ultimately taking them further than they got to last season.
