DOMINO EFFECT: Pogba Leaves and These 3 Players Are Welcomed in Through The Man United Doors

Much will be made of this season’s summer transfer window, Man United will seemingly be linked with anyone who may be slightly available. However, the outgoings may cause as many headlines as the incomings.

Paul Pogba will no doubt hog the headlines, with his, is he staying or is he going story line. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made no secret that he wants his business done early and preferably before the pre-season campaign starts. With the Red Devils looking to have a good start to the season following a dreadful end to the season in which United finished 6th.

A move to Real Madrid seems very much on the cards, amidst reports he is set to become the club captain at Old Trafford – Two very contrasting news stories.

However, if the Pogba to Real Madrid move happens, then the Norwegian boss will be looking to get some new fresh faces in through the doors as soon as possible.

We think these three bright young players would fit in nicely at Old Trafford…

Joao Felix

The Benfica striker is one of the hottest properties around at the minute. In only his first season in professional football, Felix bagged 14 goals and seven assists in his 20 games.

United need a consistent striker, and this 19-year-old may be the answer as Solskjaer looks to provide a bright future at Old Trafford.

We looked a little more in depth at Felix here

Nicolas Pepe

Nicolas Pepe has lit up Ligue 1 on the right wing this season for Lille. Solskjaer needs to create a balance within the team, and the right-wing role has been a troublesome spot to fill this year with no real recognised player in the first team squad.

Having scored 21 and provided 11 assists, Pepe is something United need and the fans would love to watch

Tanguy Ndombele

The defensive midfielder has been a person of interest to the blue side of Manchester already this summer, as they see Ndombele being a long term replacement for Ferdandinho.

Having lost Ander Herrera, and with Matic not getting any younger, Lyon’s defensive midfielder may be a good shout to bring in to provide much-needed cover for United defence.

  • This summer’s priorities

    • MATTHIJS DE LIGT (£65m)
    We won’t get Koulibaly (£120m), Skriniar (£80m) and need 2 more to support De Ligt. We could make do with Lindelof & Tuanzebe, but I would also invest in RUBEN DIAS (£50m – back-up Harry Maguire) now if funds available, or soon afterwards;
    OUT: Jones, Rojo, Bailly (3 in, 3 out, 135-60= £75m net cost)

    • AARON WAN-BISSAKA (£50m)
    Dalot not there yet but a great reserve option;
    OUT: Valencia, Darmian (1 in, 2 out, 50-16= £35m net cost)

    • BRUNO FERNANDES (£60m)
    City have the Silvas, De Bruyne, Gundogan & Foden coming through – ALL playmakers. We have Pogba & Mata, usually played out of position. Fernandes is a no-brainer alongside Pogba and readymade to replace Pogba if he leaves;
    OUT: Possiblity Mata (1 in, 1 out, net cost £60m)

    • DECLAN RICE (£50m) & JONJO SHELVEY (£30m)
    Our defensive midfield is poo. That’s predominantly why we can’t keep clean sheets. Matic static, McTominay still a little clumsy and learning and it’s not Fred’s natural position. Loads chasing Ndombele, so Rice (a natural) & Shelvey (quality, cheap, right age & experience, with the right amount of nasty) for me;
    OUT: Herrera, Matic (3 in, 2 out, cost 100-25= £75m net cost)
    LAST CHANCE SALOON: Lingard

    • MOUSSA DEMBELE (£45m)
    We need mobile forwards who know where the goal is and Dembele is a better, younger, cheaper option than Dybala (though Dybala brings guile);
    OUT: Sanchez, Lukaku (3 in, 2 out, 120-110= £10m net cost)
    LAST CHANCE SALOON: Martial

    We don’t want to lose De Gea £60m) or Pogba (£100m), but if they don’t want to stay, they should be replaced. Bruno Fernandes would leave us with only one playmaker, but if defensive midfield significantly strengthened, we would make real progress. If we get DCMs and defence sorted, we have enough competent keepers to rotate until next summer, if no-one emerges as top dog.

    With Sanchez probably going on loan but we could get £40m, Lukaku for £70m, we could claw back £230m (Pogba/De Gea again), but still need another playmaker – would need to alter formation up front to compensate.

    So what now appears to be back-ups with potential (Daniel James £15m, Nathan Collins CB £20m, Sean Longstaff CM £20m), it’s great that we’re looking at depth too.

    Nicholas Pepe (£55m), a better option than Wilf Zaha (£65m, worth keeping in reserve) if funds allow, and we should take a gamble on one of them now, or they’ll move on this summer.

    Whilst João Felix, like Sancho are prohibitively expensive with other positions needing to be prioritised, so we should negotiate NOW for summer 2020.

    That’s 10 in, 9 out, cost £255m, before De Gea/Pogba (£160m), net cost £95m, leaving £100m+ to fund that additional playmaker (27 players, plus Greenwood, Chong, Gomes, O’Connor & Garner, though good argument for Chong & Gomes going out on loan to a Championship or top flight European side.

    GOT TO TRY TO DOMINATE POSSESSION, PLAYING OUT FROM THE BACK.

    So, sans Pogba & De Gea,

    Suggest 3-5-2, which becomes a 3-4-3 easily and a 4-3-3 with a very solid midfield.

    Romero (Henderson, Pereira J, Kovar)

    Lindelof (Tuanzebe)
    De Ligt (Collins)
    Ruben Dias (Smalling)

    Wan-Bissaka (Dalot)
    Rice (McTominay)
    Shelvey (Longstaff, Pereira A)
    Shaw (Young)

    Fernandes (Lingard, Fred)

    Rashford (Pepe/Zaha)
    Dembele (Martial, James)
