Harry Maguire is Back on Ed Woodward’s Radar, How Would the 40.5m Rated Leicester Man Improve Man Utd

Manchester United are reportedly back in the hunt for Leicester City’s centre back Harry Maguire, with the club looking like they have to top the 75m bid from last year.

Maguire’s stock rose after an impressive World Cup, which prompted the bid from then boss Jose Mourinho with the search for a centre back failing throughout the window. United once again are in the market for defensive reinforcements after a dismal campaign, missing out on Champions League football once again in recent years.

The standard of players United have in the back line is a far cry of the Vidic and Ferdinand days. Maguire is English and a defender that can play also – two major bonuses as they look to get a strong partnership like the one mentioned above.

Last season’s signing Victor Lindelof looks to have settled into the English game after his first full season of adaptation. With a defensive pairing of Lindelof and Maguire, it’s one that may not look strong on paper but two centre backs that have big futures ahead of them.

Solskjaer has to get away from the recent United tradition of signing big named players and look for them 7m Vidic’s, or the bargain-priced Steve Bruce’s of the footballing world. Albeit the market is completely different nowadays. You have to pay a premium for English players, so 75m may seem a bargain in today’s inflated market, especially when you look at rivals Liverpool’s recruitment in Virgil Van Dijk.

It may be hard to prize Maguire away from the Foxes following Brendan Rodgers taking over. The former Premier League champions have looked impressive under Rodgers and, pushed Man City hard on Monday night.

It sounds ridiculous nowadays that Leicester could be more attractive to stay at than going to United, but sadly that at the moment is a harsh truth many Red Devil fans have to deal with.

Man United fans, what do you think?

Is Maguire a missing part of the jigsaw for the Solskjaer?
