Pep Needs Gabriel Jesus Tonight to Overcome Hoffenheim…
Two weeks ago City’s performance against Lyon was about as successful as Britain’s success in Eurovision. Five defeats in six games when competing against teams in Europe, a win in Germany may seem more important than the outsider might think.
It may only be matchday two in the Champions League yet City could do with a performance that matched the wins at Basel, Feyenoord and Napoli last season.
With continuous rumours of an apparent £200 million bid for City star Kylian Mbappe, it may be time for one of City’s current players to do the business in Germany.
Gabriel Jesus will be one that pops into most minds. The current outlook in the stands when concerning Jesus is along the lines of ‘The Jury is still out’.
Seeing as Jesus plays in the same position as Mbappe, the Brazilian may need to noch in the goals more than any in this City side, especially with Sergio Aguero seemingly always carrying a minor injury.
Jesus’s impact was sadly minimal against Lyon, yet a goal at Oxford in the Carabao Cup last week may do his confidence some good.
What would please most City fans, would be to see Jesus’s name on the scoresheet more often. The Brazilian has just two goals this season having featured in every game at some point this season.
In the press conference yesterday Guardiola fanned the flames when discussing City’s approach to Mbappe. Should Jesus continue to struggle in front of goal, the Mbappe rumours will only continue to get louder.
