Who needs to stand up and be counted when City return to Premier League action?

With the first international break of the season already upon us, we only realise how much we rely on the Premier League for our weekend fix when it’s not there.

It also gives us a chance to evaluate how our team has started the season, which players have impressed and which ones need to start pulling their weight…

Leroy Sane:

Last year’s young player of the season has been dropped from City’s matchday squad already this season, let alone the starting eleven. The German hasn’t even started a league game for City, and questions continue to be asked with Sane being left out the German National team squad earlier this week – with one more fixture still to be played.

The German has been called out for ‘bad attitude’ problems by manager Pep Guardiola this season and after being dropped from Germany’s World Cup squad this summer, his early season blues will clearly not have helped him in any shape or form.

The winger is blessed with incredible speed and ability to weave in and out of defenders, even being compared to Ryan Giggs only a few months ago.

For all our sakes, let’s hope Sane can turn things around sooner rather than later.

Gabriel Jesus:

Perhaps a surprising addition to today’s piece, but the Brazilian hasn’t hit top form this season and most certainly hasn’t lit the blue touch paper.

Why?

Jesus is only twenty-one and has the potential to lead this line-up for years to come. Seventeen goals were scored in all competitions last season and one was converted in the mauling of Huddersfield last month.

Its hard to tell quite what’s not right with Jesus, perhaps he at the moment isn’t a week in week out goalscorer.

If, Sergio Aguero god forbid suffered a long-term injury, would City fans be confident with Jesus leading the line?

I personally wouldn’t be, that’s why he needs a good September to end the doubt that exists currently.

A goalscoring run starting against Fulham, that would do very nicely!
