Salford City need to win these 2 matches to show they are real promotion contenders

Salford City has had a meteoric rise through the leagues since the Class of ’92 took over, and are favourites once again to make the leap into league football come to the end of the season.

So far this campaign Salford has shown they can mix it with the big boys of the National League, with them sitting just outside the play-off zone.

However, a good campaign can be set up early in the season and, September could prove crucial in the Ammies push for promotion.

Salford have only lost two of the first nine matches and, recently picked up their first away win against a previously unbeaten Flyde – which are encouraging signs. Indeed with the arrival of Adam Rooney, this has certainly levelled Salford up with quality.

In a busy September month, Salford’s fixtures list is fairly kind to them, however, there are a couple of games that, if they win, could prove to some doubters that the Ammies are real promotion contenders – maybe even title challengers?

Let us take a look at the two games in question…

Boreham Wood

Boreham Wood and Salford share similar league stats at this moment in time, only Salford’s +4 goal difference is giving Graham Alexander’s side the advantage.

The ability to win teams that are in and around them gives the side a chance to pull away from their contenders, these games are often tricky – but could already be season changing.

Boreham Wood are a tough team with a cult-like following, but the home advantage for Salford could be the winning factor.

Hartlepool United

Hartlepool looks like a team that will be there or thereabouts, come to the end of the season. Having only been beaten once so far this campaign, Hartlepool will be a yardstick for Salford to measure themselves against for the rest of the year.

A win will send out warning signs to the rest of the league, especially following the win away this week against Flyde.

If the Ammies are to aim for another promotion and keep this amazing story going, then victories against these two teams is a must and will set them up for a brilliant campaign.
