The FMC League Round-Up #1

Here’s the FMC’s first round up of the weekend’s football, enjoy…

Man United kept a clean sheet, however, Pogba missed a penalty and Rashford seen red late on but the Red Devils got a much-needed win before the International break.

Man City kept up their impressive start to the season with two cracking goals from Sterling and Walker to beat a tough Newcastle side.

Bolton came from two goals down against Preston to grab a draw. In a crazy three minutes, the Whites knocked in two goals from Ameobi and a thunderbolt from Olkowski to draw even before halftime, but drop to 7th in the Championship.

Wigan climbed to 9th after a 1-0 win over a tough to break down Rotherham. James Vaughan’s prodded home with 15 minutes left to play to finally crack the visitor’s defensive wall, the Latics clung on to the win following a great save late on from GK Walton.

Rochdale held out against a persistent Coventry City to steal a winner. Dale had ridden thier luck with a host of chances for the home side firing wide. Up popped Calvin Andrew within minutes of the second half starting, to see his shot just creep over the line to move Rochdale to 14th and break their winless run.

Oldham grabbed a last minute winner against managerless Crawley Town to see them move into the early play-off places. Nepomuceno opened the scoring in the 8th minute before Crawley equalized, and missed a penalty due to a great save from Iverson. Surridge tapped home from 6 yards with a minute left to play for the three points.

Bury got back to winning ways with a 5-goal thriller at Gigg Lane. Thompson grabbed his first goal for the Shakers, Telford’s brace put the home side 3-1 up. With five minutes of injury to play, Morecambe made things interesting by pulling a goal back, however, the home side held out and sit in mid-table.

Salford City visited the bottom of the league side Dagenham & Redbridge. It turned out to be a frustrating afternoon for the Ammies – after they were forced to play over half the match with ten men due to Lloyd’s dismissal just before half-time. Salford came close on many occasion but, will see this as a point gained given the circumstances.

FC United of Manchester came from two goals down in the Sunday afternoon kick-off against high flying Bradford (Park Avenue). A last minute equaliser from Willoughby gave the hosts a much-needed point, however, they drop to bottom of the league and look in need of a boost to kick-start their season.

Ashton went into the game against Telford United without leading scorer Matty Chadwick. The Robins went ahead just before half-time through McAtee’s first goal for the club, but a second-half comeback from Telford see Ashton Utd still looking to add to their one win so far this season.

Curzon Ashton like their rivals are struggling for wins early on in this campaign. A Nuneaton side who hadn’t won previous to the weekend grabbed an 8th-minute goal to claim thier first win of the season.

Stockport County was the only Gr.Manchester side to win in the National League North at the weekend. County took advantage of a sending off for Leamington on the stroke of half-time to pull away from their visitors to win 3-1 and end their four-game search for the three points.
