2 reasons why Leicester City should sign Newcastle Utd forward

Newcastle’s loss could be Leicester’s gain should they secure the services of the ever-improving Spanish striker

Ayoze Perez will be 26 at the start of the 19/20 season, in which he may well be starting off in a blue strip. The prolific Spaniard striker joined Newcastle in 2014 from his hometown club CD Tenerife.

After Newcastle’s relegation in 2016, Perez played a big part in their fight to regain Premier League status by bagging 9 goals in the Championship, as well as providing 7 assists. The battle was successful as Newcastle saw themselves back in the top tier of English football the season after, where Perez saw 8 goals and 4 assists.

More recently, in the 18/19 season, Perez was Newcastle’s top scorer with 12 Premier League goals, 13 in all competitions.

There has been an obvious and steady improvement in the Spanish striker over recent years with Newcastle, and here are two reasons he will have a big impact at Leicester City…

Give and take

As mentioned, the arc of improvement with Perez is not only visible through watching him on the pitch, but also by analysing his statistics. Next season, he could have been looking at emulating last season by scoring another 10 to 15 goals for the Magpies.

However, it is a fair statement to suggest that Leicester provide much more quality than Newcastle. Therefore surrounding himself with better players could result in a breakthrough season for the forward, and could see himself hit the 20 goals a season mark. Therefore, by moving to Leicester, both the club and the player would benefit.

Long live Jamie Vardy

Vardy will go down in history for the East Midlands blues after serving the club through thick and thin, and even holding up the Premier League trophy with his beloved team in 2016. However, even legends have sell-by dates. Next season, Vardy will turn 33 years old, and Leicester needs to secure their future. They may see a top quality goalscorer in Ayoze Perez and he could successfully relight the torch once Vardy’s has burned out.
