The transfer window has opened. The latest name to be linked with a move to Manchester United this week is Wolverhampton Wanderers number nine Raul Jimenez.
Following rumours that state a £27 million deal has been agreed between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Braga to sign Portuguese striker Paulinho. A move away from the club that he joined on a permanent deal in 2019 (following a year-long loan) has begun to look a possibility.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly in the market for another forward. Alongside the fact, the Mexican international Jimenez has been a consistent performer for Wolves all season.
Jimenez has scored goals in both the Premier League and in the Europa League. Nuno Espirito Santo will be reluctant to let his star striker leave for anything less than a hefty sum (various reports state a cost in excess of £72 million would be sought).
Here is why we believe he would be an excellent signing for the reds…
Proven Premier League Goal Scorer
Jimenez has completed two seasons in the Premier League with impressive statistics. Following Wolves return to the top division in 2018, the Mexican, from 38 appearances scored 13 goals and had 7 assists. This season the numbers improved, 38 appearances have led to 17 goals and 6 assists. Jimenez has been one of the top performers outside of the ‘big six’ and would offer a significant goal threat to United’s attack.
Strength in Depth
Raul Jimenez is an out and out centre-forward and offers something that United do not have at the moment. Martial, Greenwood and Rashford have all had their most successful seasons at Manchester United and have offered speed, agility, and flair, Jimenez.
However, as an aerial threat which is not currently offered alongside a deadly eye for goal. Whilst Odion Ighalo has performed well in the cup competitions and has become something of a cult hero, his loan move will expire in January. Furthermore, to get the best out of Martial, he needs competition. If United want to challenge for the league Jimenez would be an ideal acquisition to an already potent forward line.
