2 Man City youngsters we need to look out for next season

With this season’s curtain-raiser, the Community Shield, taking place this weekend. What better time than now to make some ill-fated predictions of potential future stars we may see breakthrough next year.

Although not involved in the match this weekend. Manchester City have won the Community Shield for the past two seasons, and as usual, they have a wealth of talent with the potential to break into their first-team squad.

Of course, we all know about the talents of Phil Foden and Eric Garcia, both of whom played a large part in the first teams return to football following the coronavirus break.

Foden will hope to cement himself as a first-team starter, particularly with the departure of David Silva now freeing up space on the team sheet. The future for Garcia, however, looks less clear, amid almost daily transfer speculation of him re-joining Barcelona.

Fans will also be familiar with new summer signing Ferran Torres from Valencia. The winger who’s just 20 years of age, certainly looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

So which two youngsters can Man City fans lookout for potentially breaking into the first team squad more regularly next season?

Arijanet Muric

Supporters will remember Muric from the 2018/19 season, where the young goalkeeper filled in for Claudio Bravo, as he missed most of the season with a ruptured Achilles.

Muric conceded only one goal in City’s emphatic run to the League Cup final and was influential in their penalty shootout victory over Leicester. City The youngster saving 2 of the foxes 4 penalties as City progressed.

With Bravo having now departed the club, the door is wide open for him to cement himself as the club’s number two and to continue his development with first-team appearance’s in domestic cup fixtures.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis

The Stockport born centre half will look to kick on from last season. He scored on his FA Cup debut in a 4-1 third-round home win over Port Vale and came off the bench in the Champions League group game against Dinamo Zagreb.

Speculation surrounding John Stones, Nicolás Otamendi and Eric Garcia all leaving the club continues to circulate, with the rumoured signing of Kalidou Koulibaly, also yet to be completed.

Particularly if Garcia leaves, and Harwood-Bellis can emulate his (Garcia’s) end of season form, he’ll give himself every chance of more first team appearances next year.
